4. Assessment and preparation of patient
• pre operative assessment is done also known as pre
anesthesia checkup .
• patient preparation is done in terms of
psychology , hygiene , part preparation etc
• medical , surgical history is checked
• all essential diagnostic tests are done
5. Nil per oral
•patient is advised to kept empty stomach
• in order to minimize complications
and gastric problems
• essential medications can be taken
on doctor advice
6. Equipment's and drugs
•anesthetic equipment's are cross
checked and assembled for their
working condition
• anesthesia machine is checked
• anesthesia drugs are arranged and
prepared as per need
7. Suction should be working
• suction apparatus should be
in working condition
•suction catheter of suitable
size should be used
9. Venous access should be available
•peripheral cannula or a central line
is maintained prior to surgery as
anesthesia drugs , iv fluids are
administered during and after
the surgery.
10. Evaluation of vital signs
• if vital signs are not in stable
condition surgery needs to be
postponed to avoid complications
•vital signs during the surgery
affects the possible outcomes
of the procedure.
11. Somebody for help
• while giving anesthesia assistance
is needed to hold the patient to
transfer articles etc.
12. Intubation
A proper sized endotracheal tube
is inserted into the trachea in
order to establish mechanical
ventilation.
13. Patency of airway should be maintained
• Airway should be cleared off
secretions to ensure proper exchange of gases.
