This document summarizes a retrospective study of 474 adult patients who underwent tonsillectomy between 2001 and 2007. The study aimed to determine the common indications for adult tonsillectomy and identify factors associated with postoperative complications. The most common indication for surgery was chronic infection (57%), followed by upper airway obstruction (27%) and suspected tumors (16%). Postoperative complications occurred in 15% of cases and included bleeding, prolonged hospitalization, postoperative oxygen desaturation, and readmission for pain control. Chronic infection remained the leading indication for adult tonsillectomy compared to pediatric patients. Complication rates varied depending on the reason for surgery.
