5. INTRODUCTION
Kenya is a country located in East Africa, bordered by Tanzania to the south, Uganda to the
west, South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, and the Indian
Ocean to the southeast. With a population of over 50 million people, Kenya is one of the most
populous countries in Africa. Nairobi is the capital city and the largest city in Kenya.
Kenya is known for its diverse wildlife, stunning landscapes, and rich cultural heritage. It has
many famous national parks and reserves, such as the Nairobi National Park ( only park in the
world that sits within a capital city), Maasai Mara National Reserve, Amboseli National Park, and
Tsavo East National Park, that attract thousands of visitors every year. The country is also
home to many different ethnic groups, including the Kikuyu, Luhya, Luo, Kalenjin, and Maasai,
each with their own unique culture and traditions.
Kenya has a mixed economy, with agriculture, tourism, manufacturing, and services as the main
industries. Tea, coffee (one of the world’s five best coffee), and flowers are among Kenya's
major exports. Despite the challenges of poverty and inequality, Kenya has made significant
progress in recent years and is considered a regional hub for trade, finance, and transport.
