Writing quadratic functions in standard form
Use FOIL:
(x + 3)(x + 5)
F________________, O________________, I________________, L________________
This is called standard form.
Write the following in standard form:
y = – (x + 4)(x – 9)
Note: distribute the negative sign last.
y = 3(x – 1)2
+ 8
Note: (x – 1)2
must be FOILed as well.
(x – 1)(x – 1)
