1. EMV is the global standard between
chip cards and chip-reading
payment devices. These standards
have been around for more than
20 years and are in use in
80 countries; it’s just now that the
U.S. has agreed to support them.
EMV eliminates duplicate card fraud,
which comes from fraudsters copying the
mag-stripe data from your card or stealing
your card data online and reusing it. Experts say
duplicate card fraud accounts for billions of dollars
per year!
Estimates say that over half of the cards issued in the U.S.
will be EMV enabled by year-end and close to half of the
merchant locations will be also.
