Social Internship (MBA 2011 - 13 Batch)
Social internship aims at creating effective managers who are responsible to society and humanity. Each
student in MBA programme is required to do a social internship for at least four weeks to develop sensitivity
towards the social responsibility. It requires each student to seek out a relevant NGO and to work with them to
learn about the social issues/activities and finally apply their managerial learning to improve the effectiveness
of the NGO. On completion of internship each student is required to submit a report which is evaluated as per
JBS rules for equivalent to one full course (i.e. 3 credits).
Objective
The objective of the programme is to sensitize the students about social issues so as to develop socially
conscious potential managers. During the internship the students are expected to;
• Understand the gravity of the social issue, its magnitude and its implications for the society.
• Study the Government policy and also the initiatives taken by the public/private institutions and the role
that NGO’s are playing.
• Areas of activity of the NGO and the issues which the NGO is addressing.
• Possible initiatives that corporate sector can take to address the social issues.
Components
There are following four parts of this social internship:
Part-1: Orientation on social entrepreneurship in preparation for a social internship at a nongovernmental
organization (NGO) has been already offered during October 1 – 5, 2012. It comprises of 50 percent
of the course evaluation.
Part-2: The study of the gravity of the social issue, its magnitude and implications on the society.
Part-3: The study of the Government policy and its significance. Also the initiatives taken by the private
institutions as part of corporate governance and social responsibility and its impact on society.
Part-4: This part may be a project assigned by the NGO or a general study of the concerned NGO.
Instructions
Read and follow the instructions carefully given below.
1. During the Social Internship you are required to complete Part-2 to Part-4 of Components.
2. Know your JBS faculty supervisor from the list given at the end of this document.
3. Complete the “Social Internship Reporting Form” and submit to your JBS faculty supervisor in
advance(word file attached separately).
4. Prepare your “Individual Social Internship Report” according to format mentioned below. Use font
type as Times New Roman and 1.5 lines spacing only. All the reports need to be hard bound ONLY.
The complete report should be of approximately 50 pages.
5. For all the queries related to “Social Internship” you should contact respective JBS faculty supervisor.
6. Submit one hard bound copy of the report and soft copy in CD to your JBS faculty supervisor
latest by Saturday, March 30, 2013, 1:00PM for evaluation. Copies submitted for evaluation will not
be returned. Submit one hard copy of report to the NGO and also keep one hard copy for your own
personal record.
7. Deductions:
a. Non submission of Social Internship Reporting Form to the JBS Faculty Supervisor latest by February
28, 2013 will be penalized by deduction of 5 marks.
b. Reports submitted during April 1 to April 2, 2013 will get 0 (zero).
c. Report Submitted in any form other than proper hard bound and/or non submission of soft copy in CD
will be penalized by deduction of 5 marks.

Submission Dead lines
Last date for submission of one hard bound copy of the report and soft copy in CD to your JBS faculty
supervisor is by Saturday, March 30, 2013, 1:00PM.
Report submitted on or before deadline will get 5 marks for on time submission, while reports submitted
during April 1 to April 2, 2013 will get 0 (zero).
Under any circumstances report will not be accepted after April 2, 2013, and the student will be awarded F
grade.
