For additional informationcontact DanielleDupuyatdanidupuy@em.ucla.edu California Mental Health Older Adult System of Care Project Project Summary The UCLA Center for Health Policy Research has received a 2-year contract from the California Mental Health Services Oversight and Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) to assess how mental health services funded by the California Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) are being provided to adults 60 years of age and older. The purpose of this research is to assess the progress made in implementing an older adult system of care since passage of the MHSA, and to identify opportunities and strategies to further improve the delivery of mental health care and services to older adults throughout the state. The project will also identify and document the challenges and barriers to meeting the unique needs of this population, as well as strategies to surmount these obstacles. Lessons learned and resultant policy recommendations for improving older adult mental health services shall be developed and presented to the Commission and key policymakers. To guide the project, the research team has assembled a statewide project advisory committee (PAC) that represents key stakeholders at the county and state level, experts in mental health and aging services, special populations and interest groups, along with consumers, caregivers and advocacy groups.
