Why PBCS?
Initial up-front cost greatly reduced
▶ No hardware purchase costs
▶ No software purchase costs (only subscription cost)
Less IT involvement necessary
▶ IT is already overtaxed — let’s take one thing off their plate
Total cost of ownership is lower vs. on-premises Hyperion Planning
▶ No hardware maintenance costs
▶ Limited IT-related costs
▶ No annual software maintenance costs
▶ No upgrades required every few years
All of the great functionality of Hyperion Planning

Which PBCS?
Planning and Budgeting Cloud Service (PBCS)
▶ 3 BSO Custom Plan Types
▶ 3 ASO Custom Plan Types
▶ 1 Consolidated Reporting Cube
▶ $120/user/month
Enterprise Planning Cloud (E-PBCS)
▶ 3 BSO Custom Plan Types
▶ 3 ASO Custom Plan Types
▶ 1 Consolidated Reporting Cube
▶ Pre-Built Workforce Planning
▶ Pre-Built Capital Planning
▶ Pre-Built Project Planning
▶ $250/user/month
9. 9
What Version of Planning?
11.1.2.1+
▶ LCM should migrate much of your application
▶ We’ll cover the basics of what will and won’t make the trip
Prior to 11.1.2.1
▶ Not currently supported by Oracle
▶ Recommended path is to upgrade the application prior to
moving to PBCS
10. 10
Migrating Plan Types
Evaluate your existing application and determine how many
Plan Types must be migrated
Are you running any of the modules like Workforce, Capex,
or PFP?
Do you have more than 3 BSO Plan Types in total?
If you have 3 BSO Plan Types (including modules) or less and 3
ASO Plan Types or less, you can proceed with PBCS
If you have more than 3 BSO Plan Types, you have two options:
▶ Convert some Plan Types to ASO
▶ Consolidate Plan Types
11. 11
Calculations
Business Rules
▶ Do you use Calculation Manager or Business Rules Server?
▶ Calculation Manager
‒ LCM will take care of everything
▶ Business Rules Server
‒ Convert to Calculation Manager prior to the LCM export
‒ Manually convert each Business Rule (requires that each rule be manually re-
attached to forms and menus)
Calculation Scripts
▶ Will not import via LCM, as Calculation Scripts are not
supported in PBCS
▶ Manual conversion to Business Rules
▶ ASO scripts executed in MaxL need to be migrated to
Calculation Manager
12. 12
Load Rules
Load Rules no longer exist in PBCS
Evaluate each Load Rule and determine the best
replacement available
▶ FDMEE (PBCS)
▶ FDMEE (on-premises)
▶ Native Essbase Format
13. 13
Report Scripts
Like Load Rules, Report Scripts no longer exist
in PBCS
Evaluate each Report Script and determine the
best replacement available:
▶ Use the native PBCS utilities to produce exports of data
▶ Use Business Rules with the DATAEXPORT command to
produce flat files that can be executed by EPMAutomate
▶ Use FDMEE to produce a flat file
14. 14
Financial Reports
If all of your reports are based on Planning
connections, the migration should be handled
primarily using LCM
If any of your reports are based on Essbase
connections, the reports will need to be recreated
from scratch
Security will likely need to be rebuilt either way
15. 15
Security
Logins
▶ If your IT infrastructure can support it, PBCS supports
authentication with Active Directory
▶ If not, you will have to create all of your users in the admin
console
Permissions
▶ Once your users have been added to the system, you will need
to convert your old security
▶ This is a relatively manual process that can be greatly assisted
through the use of Excel and many of the “old tricks” used
with on-premises Planning
Good time to revisit security
16. 16
Automation
Automation will likely be the area requiring the
most redevelopment as you migrate to the cloud
Evaluate your current processes
▶ Metadata
▶ Data
▶ Batches and Scheduling
17. 17
Testing
Make sure to allocate plenty of time to train your
users on using PBCS (it’s not that different… but it’s
still different)
As with any project, specifically a migration, be
sure to have a plan for testing
Don’t assume any functionality will “just work” —
test it all!

Oil and Gas
Headquartered in Tulsa, Oklahoma, WPX
Energy, Inc. is a petroleum and natural gas
exploration company with core acreage in
North Dakota’s Williston Basin and New
Mexico’s San Juan Basin. Having been spun
off from Williams, WPX inherited a variety
of Hyperion applications, including HFM,
FDM, Planning, and Essbase.
In need of an upgrade, they were at a
crossroads between continuing with on-
prem products or moving to the cloud.
With an IT strategy favoring the cloud,
Planning and Essbase had to be converted
and migrated. This meant consolidating
three applications into an EPBCS
application.

US-Analytics was able to successfully
rationalize and consolidate two existing
Planning applications and one Essbase
application into a single EPBCS application.
This included:
• Migrating Planning using LCM
• Manually converting Essbase into a BSO
Plan Type
• Rebuilding automation without SQL-
based Essbase load rules
• Implementing external security with
Active Directory
• Extensive testing of the new application

The final product is a cloud-based planning
system that interfaces with on-prem
products like HFM. The migration was not
without challenges:
• Cloud-based FDMEE had serious
performance challenges with 20 years
of data
• Existing users of the Essbase Add-In or
Smart View for Essbase had to transition
to Smart View for Planning
