The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) granted doctoral fellowships worth $12,000 each to 25 students to promote diversity in the accounting profession. AICPA runs the Minority Doctoral Fellowship program to increase the number of minorities educating future CPAs. The fellowships can be renewed for up to four years and are meant to support doctoral students who will inspire the next generation of accountants.

For over three decades, Troy Biddix has practiced as a certified public accountant (CPA) in Detroit,
Michigan. A partner at Deloitte Tax, Troy Biddix is a member of the American Institute of CPAs
(AICPA).

AICPA is committed to promoting the practice of accounting in the country as well as building
diversity in the profession. As a result, AICPA runs the Minority Doctoral Fellowship program,
which seeks to increase the number of minorities educating the next generation of CPAs in
colleges and universities across the country by giving scholarships to minority doctoral students.

4. AICPA Grants Doctoral Fellowships to 25 Students
In October 2019, the AICPA Minority Doctoral Fellowship granted fellowships to 25 deserving
students. The fellowships were worth $12,000 each and are renewable up to four years for doctoral
students who meet the eligibility criteria. When announcing the fellowships, AICPA Foundation
president Ernie Almonte expressed optimism that the recipients will give back to the profession by
inspiring tomorrow’s CPAs. Applications for the 2020 fellowships will be opened on March 1, 2020.
