• Definition of empirical : Evidence that
relate to any experience or observation
• In other words, evidence that you might
have realized or read yourself.
Empirical Evidence
• Empirical evidence are shown by scientific research such as ‘
sun will rise tomorrow’
• This type of evidence provide strong support to the argument
as they are based on logic and are more justified
• There are many other types of evidence
Logical Evidence- It relies majorly on logic and facts that can
appeal the audiences.
Anecdotal Evidence – These are based on personal stories
and experiences
Example of Empirical Evidence
• In Psychology- Drug taken by
Taken by teenager generally
assumed to be due to
depression .However it can be because of peer pressure.
• In Science- To know the body
temperature often
thermometer is used to know the
correct reading. A person with
fever may appear cold or hot to
the another person.
Example of Empirical Evidence
• In Sociology- In order to know the
standard of living of a neighborhood,
research can be based on the average
wage earning. However if the people
are from different economic strata then
other factors will also be needed.
In Neuroscience- Scientist have studied
the impact of video games on the children
and particularly the violent games.
