2. What is Family
Therapy? Toronto Psychological Services provides sensitive, knowledgeable,
and expert services that support the growth and development of the
entire family structure.
A type of psychotherapy called family therapy helps families foster change, growth, and
development. This therapeutic approach views transformation in terms of the network of
relationships among family members. All schools of thought in the field of family therapy
operate under the premise that, regardless of the cause of "the problem," and regardless of
whether the family members view it as an "individual" or "family" problem, involving the
entire family in the solution benefits not only the individual family members but also the
family system as a whole. In family therapy, the therapist's job is to draw attention to and
make the most of each family member's assets, knowledge, and support so that the entire
family system gains.

3. An increasing corpus of research demonstrates that
systemic family therapy considerably enhances family
functioning in general. According to this viewpoint, the
family's dysfunctional symptoms serve a purpose and
serve to draw attention to the problems the family is
facing. In a systemic family approach, families leverage
