Terri Saulin's art exhibit at Finlandia University opened with a reception for the artist. Saulin spent the week visiting and teaching Finlandia students. Her unique art incorporates porcelain sculptures and pen and ink drawings that are layered to create impressive works. The exhibit stops viewers in their tracks and needs to be seen in person to appreciate Saulin's stimuli-driven pieces that question norms. Attendees of all ages enjoyed the must-see exhibit, which will be open through October 20.

Hancock – September 18, 2009
A reception for Philadelphia artist Terri Saulin was held Thursday evening Celebrating the opening her
exhibit “Lines of Flight”, at the Finlandia University Gallery.
Terri Saulin is an extremely gifted artist who creates wonderful works of art that are exciting and unique
to say the very least.
2. Terri Saulin's art exhibit at Finlandia University opened Thursday with a public reception for the artist.
The artist spent the week visiting and teaching the students at Finlandia's School of Art and Design.
Saulin teaches at Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia.
As our reader's know we recently published the press release for this exciting exhibit. But, the release
didn't prepare me for what I was to see as entered the Gallery in the Finish American Center at Finlandia.
Terri's work stops you in your tracks just long enough for you to say "Wow!"
We do our best to photograph these art exhibits in an attempt to share these events with the residents of
the Western U.P. Terri's art really needs to be seen in person to be truly appreciated and enjoyed. Terri
Saulin primarily works in two mediums, porcelain and pen and ink.
Which ever medium she works in the result will leave the viewer both pleased and excited.
Saulin begins her work with a sculpture then it evolves into a pen and ink. A process quite the opposite of
that usually used by artists, however, Terri Saulin's art certainly questions the norm. Several of Terri's
drawings are layered, which results in a really awesome work of art.
Terri’s work is a result of a stimulus an external stimulus. Her interests include biology, botany classical
music, geology and gastronomy. Terri says" I view wall installations as recipes or maps. The ceramic
elements and drawings have a symbiotic relationship. They regenerate each other, becoming elastic and
infinitely expandable hybrid configurations."
Saulin's current inspirations come from Canadian classical pianist Glen Gould and the book "A Thousand
Plateaus: Capitalism and Schizophrenia" by Giles Deluze and Felix Guitarri.
While visiting this exhibit, I questioned many of the attendee's as to their opinion of the exhibit.
Interesting to note that regardless of age, everyone shared the same experience with this wonderful
exhibit.
This is a must see exhibit. The exhibit will be open through October 20, 2009.
