1. Dr. Wright Possible New Script
Welcome to Indiana Wesleyan University Online Faculty Orientation (Or whichever the new name will
be). I’m David Wright, President of IWU. It’s a pleasure to welcome you to this training course and
introduce you to IWU and our mission. Whether your new to the university or simply new to online
teaching it’s important to recognize and appreciate your faculty role. I’ve often said that a university
isn’t a factory we don’t have raw materials that we turn into finished products, we don’t have assembly
lines, we don’t have warehouses of finished products to sale. Instead, universities are all about people.
What happens between a faculty member and a class is the most important aspect of our university.
Here’s our mission… Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered Academic Community committed
to changing the world by developing students in character, scholarship, and leadership. That’s it, simple,
concise, profound, and vitally important. Indiana Wesleyan University is a Christ-centered community
that strives to prepare it’s learners to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world. As you review
our mission, value, and goals throughout this course, you’ll regularly encounter terms like character,
scholarship, leadership, and world changer. This is because you are the people who will influence the
success of future leaders and world changers. In your courses, you will emphasize commitment to
Christian character while upholding a standard of excellence. This is what makes an IWU education
special. This course is only the beginning. It will provide you with the foundation you need to instruct
and communicate with learners in an online environment as well as offer the best strategies for you to
do so. Your not expected to do this on your own. Center for Learning and Innovation, has provided an
excellence resource for you in this course and will be available going forward for additional training
needs you may have. The leadership of your program and fellow faculty members should also be looked
to for guidance as you continue to develop your instructional skills. I wish you the best and pray that
this experience is as rewarding for you as your courses will be for our students.
