To ensure that the United States develops a new
generation of leaders who are skilled in international
affairs and diplomacy, the
Council of American Ambassadors (CAA) offers several
fellowships for students interested in this career path.
The International Affairs Fellowship makes it possible for
six undergraduates to take part in an extensive summer
program held in Washington, D.C. The three-pronged
focus of the program is mentoring, provided by former
U.S. ambassadors; practical training, through internships
offered by the Department of State; and applied studies
in the area of international affairs.

To qualify for the Fellowship, students must first
be accepted for internships at the Department of
State. Then, once accepted as CAA Fellows, they
meet with mentors on a regular basis to explore
professional possibilities and develop a deeper
understanding of the complexities of international
affairs. The Fellows earn academic credit at
Georgetown University through the Engalitcheff
Institute on Comparative Political and Economic
Systems of The Fund for American Studies.
