2. • Duboisia contains alkaloidal sulphates, mainly hyoscyamine and
hyoscine.
•Contains duboisine, a mydriatic alkaloid
•Plant is a rich source of tropane alkaloids
•Medicines like stimulants, antispasmodics and analgesics
•Homeopathy for the treatment of eye complaints
•Prevention of motion sickness
•Dilation of the pupil
•Duboisia Stopping spasms
3.
4. Hyoscine Butyl Bromide
• An anticholine drug with the therapeutic effect as atropin.
• It is used clinically as drug of antegeneral anesthesia, and for
motion sickness, shaking palsy, manic psychosis and and
analgesia, relieving the role of smooth muscle spasm.
• Hyoscine butylbromide is effective in treating cramp abdominal
pain.
• Hyoscine butylbromide is effective in reducing the duration of the
first stage of labour, and it is not associated with any obvious
adverse outcomes in mother or neonate.
• It is also used during abdominal or pelvic MRI or CT scans to
improve the quality of pictures.

6. The manufacturing process
Duboisia leaves are extracted
with Methanol to produce
Hyoscine Syrup which is reacted
with Hydrobromic Acid to
produce Hyoscine Hydrobromide.
Hyoscine Hydrobromide is
basified to form pure Hyoscine
syrup, which is treated with n-
butylbromide to make Hyoscine
butylbromide. It is further
purified by crystallization and
washing to produce Hyoscine
Butylbromide API.

9. Hyoscine-N-Butyl Bromide may be the new pain management technique
Hyoscine-N-Butyl Bromide can
not only be used as a pain
management technique, but the
market is expected to bring in
more than $50 million
Alongside Hyoscine-N-Butyl Bromide, the demand for buscopan – a medicine containing
Hyoscine-N-butyl bromide – as an active ingredient has witnessed an uptick in the treatment of
pain and cramps. Buscopan when orally administered, does not cross the blood brain barrier
and has minimal systemic absorption, which in turn complements preference for oral
consumption of Hyoscine-N-butyl bromide.
