Theunis Pretorius whilst in employment of Plessey Projects
SA
It is my pleasure and privilege to be able to give a testimonial for the
service and work-related performance of Mr Theunis Pretorius whilst
both of us were in employment of Plessey Projects SA (PTY) Ltd at
Richards Drive Midrand Johannesburg +27(0)11 655-1700 from 1998
until the end of 1999.
I was responsible for employing and managing Mr Pretorius for the
position he held as DECT Surveyor and Network Planner for the Telkom
SA Rural DECT Telephone Rollout Project, utilizing Lucent
Technology’s DECT equipment.
Mr Pretorius was responsible for the entire site planning for several sites
nationwide in terms of Site Identification and Land Acquisition; Tower -
Position; Sizes and Types of Towers Required and Frequency Planning;
Interference and Propagation Studies; Site Mapping; GPS Positioning as
well as all related Maps both in Soft and Hard Copies to Customer
requirements; Civil works and Access Identification and Specification;
Electrical Supply Solutions Specification; Switching Equipment and
Subscriber Capacity Calculation and Determination; Erlang Requirement
Identification and Calculation.
This meant that long periods of time were spent away from home,
electricity and other basic creature comforts and often under extremely
difficult situations literally in no civilization at all for days on end
surveying very harsh terrain until a suitable solution was found.
I can confidently say that no site was to small or large for the capabilities
of Mr Pretorius with survey results being scrutinized with a fine
toothcomb by the customer (Lucent Technologies). Mr Pretorius’s
attention to detail could not be faulted on any occasion to my knowledge.

2. Projects were completed on time and in a professional manner and often a
better solution was put forward than what was budgeted for by the
customer, due to surveying of the highest quality.
Mr Pretorius was in charge of tools and equipment, ranging from an all
terrain vehicle to GPS’s and Software Propagation Tools, which he made
an exemplary effort of looking after and taking care of.
It is my opinion that whoever would employ Mr Pretorius can be assured
of acquiring a colleague that can be trusted with a task and with minimal
or no supervision can be relied upon to deliver the desired result. It is not
often that one can write a testimonial of this calibre for a previous
employee.
