Bible prophecy has a vital role to play in our day today and all Christians should be studying
the Word of God with an eagerness and desire to learn more about Jesus and His
revelation. I hear many times from Christians saying that bible prophecy is too complicated
to understand and all I need is Jesus, so I'll not bother trying to understand it. Well, in the
beginning of the book of Revelation is says that it is the 'revelation of Jesus Christ'. Do we
not want to find out about His revelation? The word of prophecy has been opened to us now
in these last days and God has given us an understanding of it, after all, what would be the point
of God giving us prophecy in the bible if He wasn't going to reveal it to us? It would be
useless, but thankfully He has revealed the truth about it.
If we look at a prophecy that Jesus made Himself concerning the Jews, then we can see how
important it is for us to understand it. In Matthew 24, Jesus prophesied that the city of
Jerusalem would be destroyed. Not only destroyed, but leveled, having not one stone left
upon another. Jesus said that the Jews should flee to the mountains when they see the sign
that this is about to happen. Now in AD70, the Roman army came against the city of
Jerusalem, but withdrew unexpectedly. Now some of the Jews saw this as the sign to flee,
and they did, but over 1 MILLION Jews stayed in the city, not heeding the Words of Jesus and the
Roman army came back and destroyed the city as Jesus said, not leaving one stone upon
another. Those 1 MILLION Jews were killed because they did not heed the warning in that
prophecy of Jesus. Is bible prophecy important - very much so!
We have bible prophecy today which is backed up by hundreds and thousands of years of history
to validate it. Take a look at what the apostle Peter says in 2 Peter 1:19... 'We have also a
more sure word of prophecy; where unto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth
in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.' ..... We need to heed the
word of bible prophecy as Peter says above. Why? Because we put ourselves in a
position to be deceived if we don't take any interest in it. The enemy is roaming around
seeking whom he can deceive, and you put yourself as a prime target for him, if you don't study
prophecy and heed what it says. Maybe you feel it is too complicated and you just can't
grasp it. Well, trust in God and pray always before you come to His word and ask for
wisdom and understanding.
Don't just take any other persons word as truth, but compare what you read with the
bible. God's Word is the only word we can fully trust, so we must base everything we hear,
see and read on the Word of God.
There are too many Christians in this world who are happy and comfortable the way they
are. They are not standing up for God's truth. They are not making any sacrifices in
their lives for Jesus. They are not defending the faith the way they should. They don't
2. believe Jesus will return for a long time yet, so they carry on being part of the world, doing worldly
things and not separating themselves as Jesus calls us to do. As Jesus revealed by His
Word, He is going to return as a thief to those who are not ready, to those who have not been
studying and watching and waiting for Him. At the beginning of the book of Revelation, it
says that those who read and understand the words of that book will be blessed. Are you
making any effort to study bible prophecy and find out about the things which are to come upon
this world? Some of the greatest warnings are in the book of Revelation and we need to
heed those warnings now, not tomorrow or next week, but now! Open your heart to the truth
and God will give you understanding.
