Abstract
Purpose: Physician burnout is reported in more than one out of every 2 practicing clinicians and is
just as prevalent in training physicians. Burnout severity is also associated with increasing levels of
financial debt. Medical professionals are notable for their high and increasing levels of debt; despite
this, financial literacy is poor among physicians, and financial education is largely absent from
medical education. Radiation oncologists (ROs) are no different in this regard, with 33% of res-
idents reporting high levels of burnout symptoms, 33% carrying >$200,000 of educational debt,
and 75% reporting being unprepared to handle future financial decisions. To fill this gap, we
reviewed the basic tenets of personal financial health for the early career RO.
Methods and materials: The core concept of financial independence (FI) is introduced, and we
review 4 basic tenets of personal financial health for the young medical professional: debt,
behavior, investment, and asset protection strategies.
Results: FI is achieved by saving until the desired quality of life can be maintained, independent of
employment income. Debt strategy involves minimizing debt accrual, understanding student loans,
and having a debt management plan. Behavioral strategy involves setting financial goals, calcu-
lating worth and a savings rate, budgeting, and frugal living. The basics of investing include
asset allocation, diversification, rebalancing, and minimizing expenses. Finally, asset protection
includes insuring against catastrophic events with disability, life, health, liability, and property
insurance.
Conclusions: Healthy financial practices can lead to FI and may facilitate professional and personal
freedoms with the goal of mitigating burnout-associated stressors. The tenets of strong financial
health for ROs in the early stages of their career include sound debt, behavioral, investment, and
asset protection strategies. Furthermore, initial and continuing financial education is an overlooked

This document discusses the importance of basic banking services in promoting financial inclusion. It defines financial inclusion as access to and use of financial services by all segments of society. Providing basic banking services like savings accounts, payment systems, and small loans is crucial for financial inclusion as it allows people to manage their finances and build credit. However, many people worldwide still lack access to basic banking services due to barriers like geographical isolation or lack of financial literacy. The document examines how basic banking services lead to financial inclusion by providing savings options, payment methods, and access to credit. It also discusses the role of digital banking, financial education, microfinance, and government partnerships in expanding financial inclusion. Finally, it reviews different theoretical dimensions proposed for measuring financial

This document provides an overview of Medicare and Medicaid programs in the United States. Medicaid is a joint federal and state program that provides health coverage to over 60 million low-income Americans, including children, pregnant women, seniors, and disabled individuals. Medicaid covers services such as doctor visits, hospital care, prescriptions, and dental and vision care. Medicare has different parts that cover various services, such as hospital insurance (Part A), medical insurance (Part B), Medicare Advantage plans (Part C), and prescription drug coverage (Part D). While Medicare and Medicaid cover many health services, long-term care services and personal care are not fully covered.

NURS 6050C: Policy and Advocacy for Improving Population Health
INITIAL POST
Economic Challenges of Healthcare Policy
The economics of the healthcare system in the United States is complex and fragmented. Costs associated with care and the prices healthcare consumers pay are determined by a wide variety of factors making it extremely difficult to find a one size fits all solution. Knickman and Kovner (2015) argue that healthcare is neither a commodity or a service, because of the high variabilities in need, cost, and consumption. The United States spends 80% of all healthcare revenue on just 20% of the population. Health insurance can be provided by the government, the private sector, or an employer. Some citizens do not have any form of healthcare coverage. Regardless of type, insurance coverage generally only pays a portion of the total healthcare cost leaving the consumer to pay the remaining balance. Moreover, reimbursement standards differ for facilities and providers. The government reimburses healthcare facilities, such as hospitals a fixed amount per patient, which creates a higher incentive to work efficiently. Healthcare providers, on the other hand, are reimbursed based on a fee for service model, meaning the more services they provide, the more money they are reimbursed (Knickman & Kovner, 2015).
Reindart (2010) maintains the passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) created more strain on the system by adding approximately 30 million uninsured Americans to the market. The projected cost to provide such coverage is around 8 billion to 1 trillion dollars over the next decade. However, the estimated expense of healthcare with no legislative intervention is 35 trillion dollars over the next decade (Reindart, 2010). Laureate Education (2012) contends that the human resources required to provide healthcare to an additional 30 million people is another consideration the ACA does not address. The United States is already experiencing staff shortages for key healthcare jobs like nurses and physicians. Additionally, with baby boomers retiring from the workforce and simultaneously needing more healthcare resources as they age will inevitably exacerbate the shortage of providers (Laureate Education, 2012).
Ethical Considerations
It is important to recognize that the private sector often follows the public sector when deciding what services will be covered (Knickman & Kovner, 2015). Therefore, the implications of Medicare deciding not to pay for a drug or service will likely affect the entire population. Stein (2010) asserts that cost should not be a consideration in determining if medications or services will be paid for by Medicare. Nonetheless, that is what happened with Provenge, a vaccine indicated for late stage prostate cancer patients. The drug prolonged the lifespan of patients by about four months. Provenge costs around 93,000 dollars per p.

Forgiving Students’ Loan
Students’ debts in the United States are a sort of financial support that has to be paid back, in contrary to other kind of financial support like as scholarships and releases (Bryfonski, 70). Students’ debts play a huge role in U.S. higher studies. Around 20 million Americans join college every year. Out of that 20 million, nearly 20 million or 60% take debt annually to cover costs. In Europe, for instance, advance education is in addition subsidized for learners and financially aided by government. In fraction of Asia and Latin America maximum after secondary education is still private with small financial support by the governments. Whatsoever, in the U.S. many of college is financially aided by learners and their relatives with government bodies being financially aided in fraction by state and localized taxation, and combined private with public bodies through extra rewards from social welfare and students. The interest rate currently is 3.4% per annum, wherein debates are in to increase it to 6.8% p.a, which seems to be the exact double of the current interest rates (Szmigin et al, 602).
Every week, new petitions popups emerge urging the government to forgive all students debts. The argument is that forgiveness of students loans will stimulate job growth and overall economy growth and will lead more people to get an education. But, it will never be an investment for collective growth as a country (Field, 2007). The theory is simple, if we provide one time bailout of students loan debts, it would stimulate and uplift the sluggish economy. After all, college graduates are the people, who are required by the society to do things like improve business, purchase homes, and cars, make discoveries , invent new things, initiate new ideas, have families, have kids and people burdened with loans do not likely make such investment of take such initiatives.
Drawing reference from Kelly’s, Forgiving Loans of Those in Public Service Grows Popular, but Programs Are Unproven, it can be said that unburdening them will improve the housing market commodity market, stock market and would eventually result in overall economic growth. With the acceptance of this proposal by the President, millions of people in America, would all of a sudden have hundreds, in some cases, thousands of dollars in their pockets to invest in various industries and contribute to the overall improvement of economy (Field, 2007).
Education loans have become the latest financial crisis in USA and if absolutely nothing is done, then the entire economy will eventually become slugging, as it happened earlier. Those who are burdened with student loan debts, do not even think of making any investments etc., while the economy desperately needs people to indulge into activities which would help us pull ourselves out of the giant hole created thus the reason for unburdening students’ loan (students loan, 1990). The document discusses universalizing access to quality primary healthcare in India. It identifies economic barriers and the high cost of treatment as leading causes for poor primary healthcare access. It proposes several solutions such as promoting generic medicines, implementing national health insurance, and increasing the number of medical professionals in rural areas. The proposed solutions aim to make healthcare more affordable and accessible to all citizens of India.
This document provides statistics on various health issues and insurance coverage in the US. It notes that about every 34 seconds someone has a heart attack and every 60 seconds someone dies from one. It also notes that every 40 seconds someone has a stroke, 63% of adults over 65 require nursing home assistance, and men have a 1 in 2 chance and women a 1 in 3 chance of developing cancer. Additionally, 45% of heart attacks occur in people under age 45. It then states that 48 million Americans are uninsured and 30% of households have no life insurance. Finally, it notes that one in 5 pre-retirees aged 50-64 have less than $5,000 in retirement savings.
This literature review explores the effects of financial stress and debt on students from low-income backgrounds ("widening participation" or WP students) and how universities support them. It finds that while total debt does not deter university applications, perceived debt plays a role. WP students are more debt-averse. Financial stress correlates with poor mental health and 10% of students withdraw due to financial difficulties. The review recommends improving financial education, advising, and support services and paying student loans monthly rather than in lump sums to improve access, retention, and students' financial skills.

Patients who have complex health needs require not only medical. But also social services and support from a variety of caregivers and providers. Facility managers who are part of care coordination could assist patient in receiving optimal care by addressing the challenges in coordinating care for these patients, and offer programmatic changes and policies that help deliver the best services to all patients.
Facility managers can come up with strategic plans based on prior data and make necessary changes based on preexisting conditions. “Patient- centered, comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care that continuously improved through a systems-based approach to quality and safety” (AHRQ, 2012) are what’s needed to achieve the highest quality care possible in any health care facility.
Patient centered care can’t be achieved with providers only. It requires team work and collaboration among all stakeholders. To improve the quality and safety of patients, health care facility managers can work hand and hand with the coordinated team to provide a system based approach by drawing on decision-support tools, taking into account patient experience, and using population health management approach. Patient preference and needs on what aspects of care to be improved.

As a facility manager, and part of the care coordination team, I would look into models of care that would assist our situation. With the Affordable Care Act in place, there are accountable care organizations (ACOs), which provide models of care (“Promise,” 2013). There are many different definitions and perspectives on care coordination, but all lead to the goal of meeting patient needs and providing adequate healthcare (“Care,” 2014).
Care coordination is essential because each patient can interact with a variety of professionals each visit. For example, for a routine physical appointment, the patient could meet with the scheduling staff, medical assistants, nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and the billing staff. If each one of these member fails to coordinate as a whole, the patient could be harmed or neglected. As a care coordinator, I would be responsible for discussing an individualized care plan with each patient and ensuring that they understand their responsibilities. All barriers should be identified, such as financial, social (language), psychological, and anything that would effect the patient from following their correct plan of care and interacting with the staff (“Promise,” 2013). Another key point is to ensure the medical staff has reviewed the patient’s medical records and ensure that everyone is on the same page. These are just a few examples, because each case is different and each patient will have different needs. .

Wellness and Health
Wellness refers to the state of being in good health. Wellness is essential for one to work effectively so that the set goals are met. For the goals to be realized, all the seven areas of health are important because they are connected. The first area of health is education. Education is one of the indicators of life outcomes, for instance, social status, employment, and income and can also be used to predict wellbeing and attitude (Anderson, 2015). Other people apply education as a tool that helps them in shaping their social identity and establishing an understanding of their environment. Education shapes the social identity on how people relate with each other in society. A positive social identity is characterized by positive results, such as increased health status, wellbeing, political engagement, and social trust. Currently, a lot of emphases has been placed on education, and therefore those with lower education find it much challenging to positively identify themselves socially hence negatively affecting their self-esteem and wellbeing (Anderson, 2015).
Individuals with higher education levels tend to develop much interest to vie for political positions than those with lower levels of education. These educated individuals also have got more social trust than their uneducated counterparts — several studies confirmed that there are a number of health benefits of education. Baum &Payea (2013) explains that a more educated person has a higher probability of getting a good job with health-promoting packages such as health insurance. On the other hand, those with low education have higher chances of doing risky jobs. Those individuals who are more educated are subjected to more earnings. A Population Survey conducted by the U.S. Department of Labor and the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics in 2012 confirmed that college graduates registered twice as many average earnings than their colleagues who had dropped out of high school and one and a half higher than those who had graduated from high school (Baum &Payea, 2013).
The families that earn more income are in a position to buy healthy food, can get time to perform exercises and can afford to pay for health services and transport cost. Consequently, low level of education brings about job insecurity, poor pay and the vulnerability of these individuals and their families are much higher during hard times leading to poor housing, malnutrition, and inability to afford medical services. Individuals with higher education levels and therefore, have got higher incomes do not suffer from health-related stress that is attached to chronic social and economic hardships (Baum &Payea, 2013). The category of individuals with lower levels of education has limited resources such as social support, a feeling of control over life, and high self-esteem to counter the stress.
Education from school and outside school enables individuals to acquire skills and foster traits that they w ...
