The document proposes a novel procedure for analyzing comet assay images to classify different DNA damage patterns in a robust manner. It tests the procedure on 20 datasets containing over 300 comet cells labeled by experts. The procedure achieves an average classification accuracy of 86.8% and consists of three phases: detection of comet pixels, adjustment to eliminate overlaps and boundary objects, and analysis using decision tree classification of three parameters to categorize cells as normal, abnormal, or failed. The proposed approach aims to organize established image analysis methods for robust comet assay classification.
