1. In Total Awe!

As I write this article, my wife and I are currently visiting our Daughter-in-law at her
and my Son’s apartment on an Army Post in Georgia while we await the return of our
Son from Afghanistan. Being surrounded by all the soldiers is awe inspiring to say the
least.
Having grown up in a Military family, I have always had the utmost respect for all
branches of the MIlitary! My Father served in the Air Force for twenty-one years.
It has been many, many years since I have spent more than just an hour or so on any
Military base or post. Talk about having goose bumps all over, I have them each and
every time I step out of the apartment. Just knowing that these men and women are
giving their all to protect what my family and I sometimes all too often take for granted,
can be a bit overwhelming.
I am over come with emotions. On one hand I am totally ecstatic about the return of
my Son, to the point I can’t begin to put into words how I feel. On the other hand, I am
deeply saddened for all the soldiers who aren’t coming home, and for all of their
families.
I thank God for all who will make it home. My thoughts and prayers are with the
families who have lost loved ones, for they have paid the ultimate price so that we can
live each day in freedom.
I hope that as the New Year comes around, each and everyone around the world will
stop and keep those who mean something to them, in their thoughts as well. If you
have the opportunity, let that person know. I am sure they will appreciate knowing.
