I have made it no secret that I am a man of faith. I give thanks to God every morning,
every night as well as all through the day. I believe in giving credit where credit is due.

I am never ceased to be amazed with those who almost use God as an excuse. I
have some very dear friends who believe that if God wants them to do something, He
will let them know. It’s almost as though they expect God Himself to come down and
knock them upside the head and say “Hey! do this!!”

In all my soon to be 52 years, I have never HEARD a voice proclaiming to be God,
speaking directly to me and telling me what I should do. I have experienced many
situations to where I may have felt God was trying to tell me something through the
actions of others, or perhaps through something I read or experienced, but that’s
about it.

What I have found is, sometimes through process of elimination, I discover the answer
to what I was searching for and believed it must have been God letting me know I had
made the right decision.

I do believe that God helps those who help themselves! I believe in order to find the
way, it is my responsibility to look for it before ever asking for guidance.

It is kind of like one of my children when they were younger and in school. If they
needed help with their homework, my wife and I were always ready to help, but not
until they tried to figure it out on their own first. Then if they needed help, we didn’t
solve the problem for them, we helped them figure it out through explanation and
sometimes even through the process of elimination. This is what any responsible
parent would do.

As a Proverb says, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to
fish and you feed him for a lifetime!”

I think that too many of us expect to go through life by just going to a restaurant, aka
someone feeding us for a day. When if we would simply take the time to learn our
craft, we could instead feed ourselves for a lifetime.

But, as many will say, “don’t worry for God will provide.” And He will. But that
doesn’t mean that He expects for anyone to just sit back and get a free ride!

It’s kind of like our welfare system. It was never intended to be a preferred way of life
for anyone. It was designed to sustain life for those could not otherwise sustain life on
their own.

I have said all this to make one point. If you are not happy in your present situation,
only you can make things better in your life. Regardless of what it is, if you don’t like it,
do something about it. Fix it!

When I was miserable with where my career path was going, I prayed and asked for
guidance. It wasn’t until I made the decision to move forward that I received that
guidance.

It’s kind of like the GPS in your car. When you give the GPS an address, request it to
find directions and complete all the prompts, it will say “proceed to the highlighted
route and guidance will start.”

For those of you who are waiting for some kind of sign that NOW is the time to make
the decision to make a change that will improve your way of living and put it into
action, HERE’S YOUR SIGN!  . . . . .  Proceed to the highlighted route and
guidance will start.
