Become A Possibilitarian!
by S.W. Seeds | on March 3, 2013

“Become a possibilitarian. No matter how dark things seem to be or actually are,
raise your sights and see possibilities. Always see them, for they’re always
                          there.” - Norman Vincent Peal

I find a lot of both merit and comfort in this quote. I think there isn’t near enough
positive attitude in today’s society.

It seems as though everyone has originated from Missouri. You know, the “Show Me”
state?

All kidding aside, and certainly no reflection on the state of Missouri of which I hold the
highest regards for, there seems to be a growth of disbelief amongst the population. It
is increasingly more difficult to advise one to simply “have faith” without them looking
at you as if you just grew a second head!

So instead of offering the advice for one to simply have faith, I offer “just think about
the possibilities instead.” I believe deep down that the message is the same.
Sometimes we just need to hear something a little differently or from another source.

When I first started actually considering the option of going into business for myself,
the practical, business side of me had concerns to be sure. It wasn’t until I started to
consider the possibilities that being my own boss could bring, that it started to wear
down any major concerns I may have had.

I love the word possibility as it has the same first three letters as the word positive. I
always aim to be a positive person. I may not always succeed, but I always aim that
direction regardless.

It’s kind of like the quote, by W. Clement Stone, “Aim for the moon. Even if you
miss it you will land amongst the stars!” The higher you aim, the higher you will
land!

If you aim to low, you may hit your goal but still feel unfulfilled. On the other hand, if
you aim too high and miss your goal, your chances are greater that you will be higher
above where you would have been had you taken the path of least resistance and
settled on a lower goal.

For example, if you have a personal goal to make $100,000.00 in gross income this
year, but make only $85,000.00, you would still come out way ahead had you only set
your goal at $75,000.00 and hit it! Think of the POSSIBILITIES of what you could do
with an extra $10,000.00!

Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying. A goal SHOULD be obtainable. You
never want to make your goal so out fo reach that there is no possible way you could
achieve it.

But, at the same time, your goal ALSO should be challenging! That’s how you grow!
By setting a goal too low, you may have a brief moment of immediate gratification
when you hit it, but still feel empty inside.

Set your goal just high enough to where you will have to reach for it. Even if you don’t
hit it this year, you will look at what you did achieve and say to yourself, “man I was so
close! I WILL hit next year!”

That’s what being a possibilitarian is all about. Wayne Gretzky once said “you miss
one hundred percent of the shots you don’t take!”

If you will always make it a point to focus on the possibilities, instead of the “Show
Me’s” of the world, you will too find your source of happiness. Who knows, maybe one
day you will become your own boss too!
