2. Neworking
A group of computers & associated peripheral devices
connected by a communicational channel, capable of sharing files
& other resources between several users is known as networking.
3. Types of networking
Local Area Network
(LAN):
LAN – LOCAL AREA
NETWORK IS A SMALL
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
SUCH AS OUR SCHOOL
BOARD.
4. A Wide Area Network (WAN) connects larger geographic areas, such as cities,
states, counties,or the world. Dedicated transoceanic cabling or satellite uplinks
may be used to connect this type of network. A WAN users multiplexers to
connect local and metropolitan networks to global communications networks
like the Internet.
Wide Area Network (WAN)
5. A Metropolitan Area Network
(MAN) covers larger geographic areas,
such as cities or school districts. By
interconnecting smaller networks
within a large geographic area,
information is easily distributed
through the network.
An example of a MAN is a network,
which connects all media centers of a
county to centralized mainframe at the
district office by using dedicated phone
lines, coaxial cabling, and wireless
communications providers.

12. A server is any machine that provides a service for
other users on the network. Files are simple, to find Files
are easily shared ,User computers can be switched off
without any problem of a file becoming unavailable. Data is
easily backed up.
13. The network 'Hub' allows computers to share data packets
within a network
14. A network card that uses a standarcable network socket
Network cards are required in every machine connected to the network.
They allow the signal from the network to be transmitted to the machine
– this could be via a fixed cable, infra red or radio waves.
15. Transfer data from one point to another on a networkhas, to be done by some
physical effectA multi-wired cable with a socket at each end is used to connect the
various devices together e.g. computer to hub, hub to switch or switch to router etc.
16. modem converts the digital data from the computer into a continuous
analogue wave form that the telephone system is designed to deal with
(MODulation). There are two types of modem.
Internal Modem External modem
17. Application of Intetrnet
Web Browsers
A software application that enables a user to display and interact with HTML
documents hosted by web servers. Popular browsers available for personal computers
include Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Netscape, and Safari.
18. Web search engine
A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World
Wide Web and FTP servers. The search results are generally presented in a list of
results and are often called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images,
information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data available in
databases or open directories. Unlike web directories, which are maintained by
human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic
and human input
