1. ROLE OF NEWER ANTIBIOTIC
CEFTRIAXONE + SULBACTUM + EDTA

SHREE KRISHNA HOSPITAL , KARAMSAD
2. Facts
• There is the increasing burden of bacterial infections day by
day
• drug-resistant pathogens are increasing day by day
• Alarmingly high resistance among Gram-negative and
Gram-positive bacteria even to newer antimicrobials such as
carbapenems.
• NDM-1 ( New Delhi Metallo Beta lactamase 1, an enzyme
which inactivates majority of Beta lactam antibiotics including
carbapenems) was reported in 2008 in india
10. - Most common BL resistance mechanism in Gram negative bacteria is
the production of beta lactamase enzymes that hydrolyze amide bond
of beta lactam
- Most problematic and difficult to treat beta lactamase producing gram
negatives include
ESBL producing Enterobacteriacae
Carbapanem resistant Enterobaceriacae (CRE) that produce KPC
or OXA-48 like carbapanemases,
Pseudomonas
Acinetobacter spp.
14. ROLE OF ANTIBIOTIC ADJUVANT ENTITY
Multidrug resistant superbugs are becoming common day by day
Carbapenems and polymixins are life saving antibiotics in case of such infections
With wide spread use of carbapenem in such situations, carbapenem resistant bugs are becoming
common issue
Need of hour:
To find out alternative drug to be effective against MDR
Antibiotic adjuvant entity helps in overcoming these issues eg CSE 1034( ceftriaxone-sulbactum-EDTA)
