3. 90th Birthday 1930-1939 Peter Hoff Passes
The crash of ’29 and the new American Falls
reservoir, that caused the water table to rise
and affect his crops, played a big roll in the
fact that Peter Hoff lost his farm. They
moved into Firth and he worked for an
insurance company. In August of 31 he
became ill and died of pneumonia on the way
to the hospital. Felix was 17.
Services were held for Peter Hoff at
the Bethel Lutheran Church in Firth,
Idaho in September 1931. He had
passed away August 30 and was
buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery in
Idaho Falls, Idaho.

Because of the depression, President
Roosevelt created a work program for
young men without jobs. So Felix enrolled
in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)
June, 14, 1933 in Ketchum Idaho at the
age of 19.

friends wrote a poem about the CCC bunk
beds.

Felix worked with the ‘Trail
Creek Gang’ for part of his
CCC duty. He also helped
build the road into Sun Valley.

Phyllis Hansine Hoff was born to Felix and
Sarah on February 1, 1938 in the LDS
Hospital in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Felix was working for the Tri State Lumber
Company in Firth and they were living in an
apartment in Anna Hoff’s home.

11. 90th Birthday 1930-1939 Bessie Bosley
Sarah had been in labor for 72 hours when
they pronounced the baby dead and did a
cesarean operation. The baby lived but
Sarah died 10 days later. Before she died she
asked Felix’s mother to have the baby
baptized into the Lutheran Church. She was
named Phyllis Hansine Hoff.
Twenty Six hours after her birth, Felix’s
brother Rudolph’s wife Ethel gave birth to a
baby daughter, Rula. Ethel took Phyllis home
and nursed her as well as Rula for a month
before Anna Hoff took her home to be with
her. Gladys was living at home at the time
recovering from TB. They both became
Phyllis’ full time care givers for the next two
years.
When Felix and Sarah were married,
Sarah was the head nurse at the
hospital in Preston, Idaho. When they
married, Sarah quit her job and moved
to Firth to be with Felix.

12. 90th Birthday 1930-1939 Bessie Bosley
In September Felix met Bessie Lenore
Bosley and they were married November 30,
1938 by a justice of the peace in Idaho Falls,
Idaho. Bessie was from Wyoming and had
graduated from Beauty School in Idaho Falls
while living with her Aunt Mildred & Uncle
Ernest Sundquist and family in Firth. Felix
worked for the lumber yard and Bessie started
her own beauty salon. Phyllis was 10 months
old but her Grandma Hoff couldn’t let go yet so
she was about two before she lived full time
with Felix and Bessie.
Over the next two or three years the lumber
yard transferred Felix to Aberdeen and then
Pocatello, Idaho and Bessie started a salon in
both places.
