2017
(January to December) International Car Sales Worldwide
December 2017: car sales increased in
Russia, Brazil and India but were weaker in
China, Japan, Europe and the USA. In full
year 2017, the USA was the only major car
market with weaker car sales.
China – Strong Car Sales in 2017
China remained by far the world’s largest
single-country car market in 2017. Car sales in
China increased by 2% to 24,171,400 cars –
German luxury carmakers generally increased
sales by higher margins.
In December 2017, new car sales in China were
slightly weaker than in December 2016, which
was an exceptionally good month for car sales.
USA – Weaker Car Sales in 2017
In 2017, the USA was the only major car market
with weaker sales. However, the 1.9% contrac-
tion still kept the US market near historic high
levels with just over 17 million vehicles sold.
In December 2017, the US car market contract-
ed by 5.1% to 1,6 million vehicles. As in Europe,
the US market was affected in December by
Christmas holidays meaning at least one busi-
ness day less than in 2016. Traditional saloon
car sales contracted by 18% while light truck
and SUV sales increased by 2%.
Europe – Stronger Car Sales in 2017
In 2017, new passenger vehicle registrations in
the European Union and EFTA countries
increased by 3.3% to 15,631,700 cars. In the EU,
sales of 15,137,700 were above 15 million for
the irst time since 2007.
In December 2017, new car sales in Europe
contracted by 4.8% to 1,136,600 cars with the
timing of the Christmas holidays limiting the
number of sales days to a larger extend than in
2016.
Japan – Stronger Car Sales in 2017
In Japan, new passenger vehicle registrations in
2017 increased by 5.8% to 4,386,400 cars – the
highest level in three years.
India – Strong Car Sales in 2017
The Indian new car market expanded by 8.8%
in 2017 tot 3,229,100 cars. The VDA recently
predicted that the Indian new car market would
surpass the German market during 2018.
Brazil – Strong Recovery in Car
Sales in 2017
The Brazilian new light vehicle market experi-
enced a strong recovery in 2017 when sales
increased by 9.4% to 2,176,000 vehicles. How-
ever, the growth came from a low base and sales
were still signiicantly lower than the levela
achieved in 2014 and 2013.
Russia – Continued Strong Recov-
ery in Car Sales in 2017
Russia was the fastest large car market in 2017
with sales expanding by 11.9% to 1,595,700
vehicles – near 2015 levels but still signiicantly
lower than 2014 and 2013.
In December 2017, the Russian new car market
expanded by 14% to 166,000 – the highest
monthly total since December 2014.
In 2017, China was again the world’s largest
car market followed by the USA and the
European Union. The USA was the only
major car market with weaker light vehicle
sales in 2017. Russia was the fastest grow-
ing car market while car sales were also
strong in Brazil, India and Japan. In Decem-
ber 2017, car sales were weaker in Europe
and the USA, lat in China and Japan but
stronger in Brazil, India and especially
Russia.

Tyre Raw Mate-
rial Analysis in
the Early of
2018 By HANMIX NEWS
Reference: chinatiredealer.com
Looking back to the beginning of the year of
2017, the prices of rubbers had soared to
the highest level .It’s no exaggeration to say
that it’s the highest in the history:
Natural Rubber
From the chart below, the price of the natural rubber was
19650yuan/ton in the middle of January 2017, however,
it’s just 12200 yuan/ton in the same time of the year
2018. Compared with the same month of last year, it has
been dropped 37.91%.
Styrene-butadiene Rubber (SBR)
We can see from the below chart that the price index for
SBR was around 24250yuan/ton in the middle of Jan,
2017. But it is 13012 yuan/ton today in the year of 2018,
the month-on-month decline was 46.34% comparing
with the same time of the year 2017.
Butadiene rubber
By the chart below ,we can see that price for butadi-
ene rubber was 25650 yuan/ton in the middle of
January 2017, and it is 12637yuan/ton at the same
time of the year 2018 ,which means 50.73% down
month-on-month.
As to the current natural rubber market, the supply is
abundant as Thailand is still in the peaking period of the
rubber tapping. On the other hand, the rate of operation
capacity is slight increased for the downstream tyre
plants, but the inventory of the rubber keeps growing,
and there is no obvious improvement in the contradic-
tion between supply and demand. In this context, it is
more likely that the price is going done later.
At present, the mainstream contract of Shanghai rubber
market is about to be delivered, and the market is vola-
tile, and the news is not conducive to the development of
SB rubber market. And the downstream terminal factory
just keep purchasing according to the demand, the
market trading is general, unfavorable to the trader to
sell; In the case of styrene butadiene rubber itself, many
plants restarted the production, and the market supply is
expected to increase, under such circumstance, all the
factors are bad for the prices increasing of the SB rubber.
the market price of Butadiene rubber is still low at
present. The raw material supply is stable, and the
demand for it performs very normal for downstream
consumers. The tyre plants is increasing the produc-
tion slightly, however the willingness to purchase
the synthetic rubber raw material is not so positive.
Considering the factors such as the upcoming
"Spring Festival", the price is expected to be under
little adjustment
In contrast with the low prices of the rubbers , the
prices of tyres are steadily warmed up. It’s raising up
from the end of 2017 to the beginning of the year
2018, which has swept over 80 tyres companies
across the country. But in terms of main ingredient
for producing tyres, the rubber price is depressed
this year, and the price is still no oblivious improve-
ment after multiple actions for saving the markets
from rubber production countries, and then the
market atmosphere is signiicantly declined
Under such depressed rubber prices, why the
prices of tyres can be increased again and again?
(see next page)
05 06
As far as the notice we got from the tyre plants, the reason for increasing
prices of tyres is mainly because of the price increase of the steal, carbon
black and the cord fabric. Even now the irst month of 2018 has been passed
, the trend for increasing is still going on , not only for the Chinese tyre plants,
but also the foreign brands are following the steps. The prices of tyres are
expected to be increased due to the below reasons:
1. Support from the raw materials. Even under the depressed rubber prices at
present, the support from Carbon , steel and cord fabric is till there, and the
rubber production countries are in the positive attitude to make improve-
ment of the rubber prices. Also the tyre plants is purchasing the rubbers as
stock, its expected that the rubber prices would also be raised up. Tyre prices
will be most probably followed up with the increasing of the rubber prices.
2. Environmental protection is taking more and more pressures to the tyre
plants. In 2018, with the most strict supervision of the environment coming,
tyre industry is still be the focus for inspection. Some tyre plants were shut
down , or under rectiication, which caused the low rate of operation of the
tyre plants and affecting the supply of the tyres. Whether to pay environmen-
tal protection tax, or to raise the standards of environmental protection
equipment, it is bound to increase the cost of enterprises, which means that
the price increases.
3. CNY Exchange rate is luctuating. It brings more cost for the tyre enterpris-
es.
As one of the tyre trading company in mainland china, we hanmix always in
the hope that our native brands can be in the top rank of the world. Price
increasing in the reasonable range is not a bad way to eliminate of outmoded
products. We wish the tyre industry adjustment can be smoothly done in the
following few years.

Global Off the Road Tire Market Synopsis
Source: MarketResearchFuture
Global off-the-road tire market is a very dynamic market and is expected to wit-
ness high growth over the forecast period. The global Off-the-road tire market is
driven with the continuous growth of various sectors such as agricultural and
logistics, mining and construction. The growth of the market is further driven by
the increase in the use of the off-the-road vehicles such as cranes, wheel loaders,
telescopic handlers, tractors and special purpose vehicles. The increasing use of
technology for achieving attributes such as increased durability including heat
resistance, and reduced rolling resistance, are expected to generate opportuni-
ties for the manufacturers in the global market. The increase in the use of heavy
machineries and equipment in the agriculture, mining and industrial sectors,
also increases the use of agricultural, mining and industrial tires.
The market experienced a downturn in the past few years, majorly, due to chal-
lenges in the coal mining segment. The increasing cost of coal mining due to the
introduction of various government regulations, hinders the growth of the
off-the-road tire market. The decline in the prices of crude oil has led to a weak
construction and mining activities. This slowdown in the growth of the con-
struction and mining sector, is also expected to restrict the growth of the
off-the-road tire market. Despite the hindrances, the global off-the-road tire
market is projected to grow at the CAGR of ~6%.
Of all construction types, the bias segment is projected to account for the largest
market share. The construction of the bias tires is cross ply and the cords are
used such that they stretch from bead to bead. Bias tires possess an advantage
over radial tires as it facilitates the entire body of the tire to lex. This lexibility
facilitates a comfortable and smooth ride on uneven and rough terrains. Howev-
er, the disadvantages of using these tires is that they have less traction and con-
trol at higher speed.
Asia Paciic region, of all regions, is expected to dominate the global off-the-road
tire market. In Asia Paciic region, China is a leading manufacturer of
off-the-road vehicles and it also has the maximum amount of sales, thereby driv-
ing the growth of the market in the region. Countries such as India, Japan, Thai-
land, and Malaysia, are also experiencing a boom in the sales of off-the-road
tires and vehicles. Also, the booming agriculture and construction industry in
the region, is expected to contribute growth in the global market. The growth of
off-the-road tire market will be followed by the North America and Europe.
The key players of global off-the-road tire market include Apollo Tyres (India),
Balkrishna Industries (BKT) (India), Bridgestone (Japan), Cheng Shin Rubber
Industry Co (Taiwan), Continental AG (Germany), Giti Tire (Singapore), The
Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (U.S.), JK Tyre & Industries Ltd (India),
Michelin (France), Nokian Tyres plc (Finland), Pirelli & C. S.p.A. (Italy), The
Titan Tire Corporation (U.S.), Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd. (Japan), Trelleborg

OTR Tires Market
Worth 7.68 Billion USD by 2025
Source: einnews
The OTR tires market was valued at USD 4.91 Billion in 2016 and
is projected to reach USD 7.68 Billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR
of 4.64% during the forecast period.
Among all the applications agriculture tractors segment is expected to account for the larg-
est market share in 2017. The <30 hp tractors segment is estimated to have the largest
demand for OTR tires during the forecast period. China and India are estimated to be the
key markets for tractors in the power output range up to 100 hp. The growth in the Chinese
market can be attributed to the signiicant rise in the agricultural mechanization level;
whereas, in India, factors such as small farm sizes and price sensitivity play a vital role.
The construction and mining equipment tires are expected to have a major share in the
retreading market compared with agriculture and industrial equipment tires. The leet
operators are choosing retreading of tires over replacement as the cost of retreaded tires
is signiicantly lower than that of newly replaced tires. The OTR tire retreading market is
estimated to grow at the fastest rate owing to the increase in mechanization and the aver-
age working hours of machine. This leads to the wear and tear of tires.
According to Global Property Guide, the number of residential and commercial buildings in
Asia Oceania is expected to increase over the next decade due to the boom in the real estate
market. Infrastructural activities are also projected to increase as they form a critical part
in improving connectivity and promoting sustainable growth. Due to these factors, the
market in Asia Oceania is expected to be the largest during the forecast period.
" Infrastructure development and government subsidies on equipment would drive the
Asian Oceania OTR Tires Market "
" Construction and Mining Equipment segment to grow at the fastest pace in the OTR
tires retreading market "
" OTR tires for Agriculture tractors accounts to have the largest market "

It’s a little-discussed type of pollution but could be affecting
your health.
Most drivers know the importance of checking tires regularly to see how worn down they are ― if
you don’t, your car is an accident waiting to happen. But have you ever thought about where the
worn-down stuff actually goes?
About 10-30 percent of the rubber from car tires is lost as they wear out, a European Commission
review reports. The majority of that material ends up on, or at the side of, the road, but most of us
don’t realize that tiny tire wear particles small enough to be inhaled are also mixed into the air we
breathe.
While a number of scientiic studies have found tire dust has adverse health effects, the tire indus-
try ― and studies it has commissioned ― suggests otherwise.
Air pollution in the U.S. causes as many as 200,000 premature deaths each year. Motor vehicles are
a major source of this pollution. Exposure to pollutants from motor vehicles can cause lung and
heart problems and early death, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.
Although signiicant work has gone into researching the contribution of emissions from exhaust
pipes to air pollution, emissions such as those produced by tire wear have been largely overlooked,
said professor Frank Kelly, chair in environmental health at King’s College London.
The indings of a study co-authored by the academic in 2013 suggest that reducing exposure to tire
dust would likely lead to improvements in health. But more research is needed to better under-
stand the health effects of tire wear particles, Kelly said, especially as non-tailpipe emissions
become increasingly important while exhaust emissions are brought under control.
The tire industry, however, has pushed back on suggestions that tire wear particles have health
effects. The Tire Industry Project ― an industry body chaired by the three biggest tire manufactur-
ers, Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear ― says it is working to develop a better understanding of
the possible health and environmental effects of tire and road wear particles (TRWP).
As part of this ongoing work, it has commissioned a series of peer-reviewed publications. The key
takeaway from TIP’s research so far has been that the presence of TRWP presents no signiicant risk
to humans and the environment.
Cyrille Roget, global head of scientiic and innovations communications at Michelin Group said: “All
the studies that we have been looking at indicate that those particles in fact do not present any
danger.”
Despite repeated requests, Michelin did not provide with these studies. Michelin did say it is devel-
oping a tire with a biodegradable tread made from material such as hay or beets.
Concerns over tire particle pollution also raise questions about frequently cited ideas for tackling
vehicle-related pollution, such as electric cars.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are being touted as one of the most promising solutions to the air pollution
crisis, especially in cities. But while they can signiicantly reduce tailpipe emissions, they won’t
tackle the effects of non-tailpipe emissions from the likes of tire waste.
Cities around the world are experimenting with ways to get vehicles off the streets. Los Angeles is
phasing out heavy-duty diesel trucks from its port and overhauling the mass transit system, while
Norway is replacing car parking spaces with bike lanes and closing certain streets to private trafic
in its capital city, Oslo. In Paris, major intersections are being redesigned to prioritize pedestrians
and cyclists over vehicle trafic.
“The air we breathe is important. If the government and companies fail to take action to improve
our air, we will be dealing with a global health catastrophe.” said Natalie Nava, project leader at the
environmental group Greenpeace USA.

Tyre Industry Trade protectionism,
Retreads and Dumping
It will be no surprise to close observers that trade protectionism in the manufacturing and mar-
keting footprints, as one of the main themes of 2016, have continued into 2017. We fully expect
there to be more news in this area in 2018.
Probably the biggest news story of 2017 was the decision in March 2017 by the US ITC that
imports of TBR tires from China had not damaged the domestic US tire industry.
People are still recovering from the shock of that decision.
In August, India’s investigation into dumping of TBR tires from China came to an end. Almost
inevitably, the decision was made to impose duties of up to USD450/tonne on imports of these
tires.
Over the Summer the European Commission (EC) had also carried out a preliminary investiga-
tion in the dumping of TBR tires from China. In August that found that there was a case to
answer and launched a formal investigation into possible dumping. The irst indications of
tariffs are expected to be made in May 2018 – nine months after the initial announcement, dated
11 August 2017. The investigation will conclude by November 2018, within 15 months of the
initial announcement.
Just as India imposed extra duties, everyone we speak to in the tire world expects the EC to ind
that the industry has been damaged and that China is dumping tires into the EC market.
Separately, the retread community in Europe is looking at issues around the increase in
single-use TBR tires in Europe, from extra energy and materials used in single-use tires com-
pared with tires that are retreaded, to the excess number of scrap casings being dumped across
the region due to the reduction in retreads.

Tips for driver: When Should Forklift Tires Be Replaced?
One of the most critical safety components of your forklifts is the tires. Tires keep your operations moving and keep your operators safe. So, knowing when to
replace forklift tires is key for minimizing downtime and reducing worker injurie
WHAT CAUSES TIRE WEAR? SIGNS FOR REPLACEMENT
ESTABLISHING A MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT PLAN
There are a lot of factors that can inluence tire
wear. Depending on the working conditions that
your lift is exposed to, wear factors can be differ-
ent. However, here are some common conditions
that inluence tire wear:
█ Contact with chemicals. This can be as
simple as gasoline, oils, and grease, which are
common in warehouses and parking lots. Chem-
icals can change the wear patterns for tires.
█ Heat. When tires get hot, during long forklift
runs, the rubber can soften and change the sup-
port that the tires provide for the lift. Heat can
also cause the rubber to strip quicker from the
tires.
█ Uneven driving surfaces. Forcing your lift
to go over bumps or driving it on uneven surfac-
es like dirt and gravel can cause quicker wear on
your forklift tires.
█ Under-inflation. Tires that aren’t illed to
the manufacturer’s recommended volume will
always wear quicker than tires that are illed
appropriately.
It’s important to know what to look for to deter-
mine when to replace forklift tires. Look for
these tire replacement indicators.
█ Tread Wear or Balding. Just like the tires on
your vehicle, one of the easiest ways to deter-
mine if it’s time for new forklift tires is to look at
the tread wear or for balding. Both pneumatic
and cushion tires will become less effective
when their tread gets low. For pneumatic tires,
when the tread is close to gone or you notice
bald spots, it’s time to replace the tires. For cush-
ion tires, when the size of the tire is 2 inches less
than the original size, it’s time for new tires.
█ Cuts or Tears. Cuts and tears on forklift tires
is a sure indicator for replacement. Even if only
one tire has a noticeable cut or tear, replace all
four tires to keep your forklift in a safe working
condition.
█ Chunking. This happens with cushion tires
and is common when the tire comes into contact
with a sharp object such as dock plates and
scrap metal. Tires with chunks missing are very
dangerous and should be replaced right away.
█ Flat Spots. Misalignment of tires or sharp stops with
heavy loads can cause lat spots. If you notice lat spots, on
either pneumatic or cushion tires, it’s time to replace the
tires and it’s time to retrain your operators.
OSHA safety requirements demand that employers who run
heavy equipment like forklifts have a set maintenance plan
for each piece of equipment. This plan should include a
process for when to replace forklift tires, which starts with
operator inspection checklists. These can be done daily, or
at the beginning of each shift. Operators should be trained
on how to properly inspect tires for damage and wear, and
indicate condition issues on a standard inspection form.
Use these forms to determine tire replacement and other
necessary maintenance. If your equipment is not used heav-
ily, a good rule of thumb is that forklift tires should be
replaced annually.
Tires are an important part of safely operating a forklift. To
keep your business productivity high and ensure worker
safety, having a good replacement schedule and an inspec-
tion checklist for forklift tires is essential.

Being one of the traditional festivals, it is the time for the
whole families to reunite together, which is similar with
Christmas Day to the westerners.
Most employees in China have at least seven days off work,
while students take one month absence from school. The
celebration lasts for 15 days from the 1st to 15th day of the
first lunar month, and in folklore it starts even earlier, from
the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month.
Originating during the Shang Dynasty (17th - 11th century
BC), the festival used to be observed to fight against the
monster "Nian" who liked to eat children and livestock.
The monster was afraid of red color and loud sound.
Therefore, people decorated their houses in red and set off
firecrackers to expel it.
Based on the lunar calendar, the festival has no exact date and it changes each year, but it mostly falls
on a day from January 21st to February 20th in Gregorian calendar. The lunar calendar also defines
the 12-year repeating cycle of Chinese zodiac, and each year is named after an animal.
The preparation starts seven days before the Chinese New Year's Eve, and the holiday celebration
will last to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Following a day-by-day
guide, Chinese people have different things to do on each day. Among these days, the Eve and the
first day are the peak time, when people will have big dinners and set off fireworks.
Worshiping the Kitchen God.
Shopping for festival items.
Pasting Spring Festival couplets,
having reunion dinner,
watching TV gala,
setting off fireworks
Worshiping the God of Wealth,
married daughters returning home.
Lantern fair,
guessing lantern riddles,
eating rice dumplings.
Setting off firecrackers,
eating dumplings,
visiting relatives
Welcoming the God of Wealth.
Clean up the house thoroughly.
Before the Spring Festival, every family will have a thorough house cleanup and go for festival items
shopping. The red spring couplets, red Fu Character, and red animal paper cut are pasted for deco-
ration. Also, new clothes must be bought, especially for children. At the reunion dinner on Lunar
New Year's Eve, people from north will eat dumplings, which southern people are used to have
Niangao (glutinous rice cake). Red Envelopes are given to kids and elders to share the blessing.
Why is red color so popular? It's because red symbolizes hapiness, prosperity and good luck in Chi-
nese culture.
In China, different places have their own traditions and activities to celebrate this grand festival.
Beijing, Guangzhou, Xian and Pingyao with authentic folk activities are good places to go if one
intends to come during the holiday.

2017 (January to December)International Car Sales Worldwide December 2017: car sales increased in Russia, Brazil and India but were weaker in China, Japan, Europe and the USA. In full year 2017, the USA was the only major car market with weaker car sales. China – Strong Car Sales in 2017 China remained by far the world’s largest single-country car market in 2017. Car sales in China increased by 2% to 24,171,400 cars – German luxury carmakers generally increased sales by higher margins. In December 2017, new car sales in China were slightly weaker than in December 2016, which was an exceptionally good month for car sales. USA – Weaker Car Sales in 2017 In 2017, the USA was the only major car market with weaker sales. However, the 1.9% contrac- tion still kept the US market near historic high levels with just over 17 million vehicles sold. In December 2017, the US car market contract- ed by 5.1% to 1,6 million vehicles. As in Europe, the US market was affected in December by Christmas holidays meaning at least one busi- ness day less than in 2016. Traditional saloon car sales contracted by 18% while light truck and SUV sales increased by 2%. Brazil – Strong Recovery in Car Sales in 2017 The Brazilian new light vehicle market experi- enced a strong recovery in 2017 when sales increased by 9.4% to 2,176,000 vehicles. How- ever, the growth came from a low base and sales were still signiicantly lower than the levela achieved in 2014 and 2013. Russia – Continued Strong Recov- ery in Car Sales in 2017 Russia was the fastest large car market in 2017 with sales expanding by 11.9% to 1,595,700 vehicles – near 2015 levels but still signiicantly lower than 2014 and 2013. In December 2017, the Russian new car market expanded by 14% to 166,000 – the highest monthly total since December 2014. In 2017, China was again the world’s largest car market followed by the USA and the European Union. The USA was the only major car market with weaker light vehicle sales in 2017. Russia was the fastest grow- ing car market while car sales were also strong in Brazil, India and Japan. In Decem- ber 2017, car sales were weaker in Europe and the USA, lat in China and Japan but stronger in Brazil, India and especially Russia. Tyre Raw Mate- rialAnalysis in the Early of 2018 By HANMIX NEWS Reference: chinatiredealer.com Looking back to the beginning of the year of 2017, the prices of rubbers had soared to the highest level .It’s no exaggeration to say that it’s the highest in the history: Natural Rubber From the chart below, the price of the natural rubber was 19650yuan/ton in the middle of January 2017, however, it’s just 12200 yuan/ton in the same time of the year 2018. Compared with the same month of last year, it has been dropped 37.91%. Styrene-butadiene Rubber (SBR) We can see from the below chart that the price index for SBR was around 24250yuan/ton in the middle of Jan, 2017. But it is 13012 yuan/ton today in the year of 2018, the month-on-month decline was 46.34% comparing with the same time of the year 2017. Butadiene rubber By the chart below ,we can see that price for butadi- ene rubber was 25650 yuan/ton in the middle of January 2017, and it is 12637yuan/ton at the same time of the year 2018 ,which means 50.73% down month-on-month. As to the current natural rubber market, the supply is abundant as Thailand is still in the peaking period of the rubber tapping. On the other hand, the rate of operation capacity is slight increased for the downstream tyre plants, but the inventory of the rubber keeps growing, and there is no obvious improvement in the contradic- tion between supply and demand. In this context, it is more likely that the price is going done later. At present, the mainstream contract of Shanghai rubber market is about to be delivered, and the market is vola- tile, and the news is not conducive to the development of SB rubber market. And the downstream terminal factory just keep purchasing according to the demand, the market trading is general, unfavorable to the trader to sell; In the case of styrene butadiene rubber itself, many plants restarted the production, and the market supply is expected to increase, under such circumstance, all the factors are bad for the prices increasing of the SB rubber. the market price of Butadiene rubber is still low at present. The raw material supply is stable, and the demand for it performs very normal for downstream consumers. The tyre plants is increasing the produc- tion slightly, however the willingness to purchase the synthetic rubber raw material is not so positive. Considering the factors such as the upcoming "Spring Festival", the price is expected to be under little adjustment In contrast with the low prices of the rubbers , the prices of tyres are steadily warmed up. It’s raising up from the end of 2017 to the beginning of the year 2018, which has swept over 80 tyres companies across the country. But in terms of main ingredient for producing tyres, the rubber price is depressed this year, and the price is still no oblivious improve- ment after multiple actions for saving the markets from rubber production countries, and then the market atmosphere is signiicantly declined Under such depressed rubber prices, why the prices of tyres can be increased again and again? (see next page) 05 06
  • 6.
As far asthe notice we got from the tyre plants, the reason for increasing prices of tyres is mainly because of the price increase of the steal, carbon black and the cord fabric. Even now the irst month of 2018 has been passed , the trend for increasing is still going on , not only for the Chinese tyre plants, but also the foreign brands are following the steps. The prices of tyres are expected to be increased due to the below reasons: 1. Support from the raw materials. Even under the depressed rubber prices at present, the support from Carbon , steel and cord fabric is till there, and the rubber production countries are in the positive attitude to make improve- ment of the rubber prices. Also the tyre plants is purchasing the rubbers as stock, its expected that the rubber prices would also be raised up. Tyre prices will be most probably followed up with the increasing of the rubber prices. 2. Environmental protection is taking more and more pressures to the tyre plants. In 2018, with the most strict supervision of the environment coming, tyre industry is still be the focus for inspection. Some tyre plants were shut down , or under rectiication, which caused the low rate of operation of the tyre plants and affecting the supply of the tyres. Whether to pay environmen- tal protection tax, or to raise the standards of environmental protection equipment, it is bound to increase the cost of enterprises, which means that the price increases. 3. Global Off theRoad Tire Market Synopsis Source: MarketResearchFuture Global off-the-road tire market is a very dynamic market and is expected to wit- ness high growth over the forecast period. The global Off-the-road tire market is driven with the continuous growth of various sectors such as agricultural and logistics, mining and construction. The growth of the market is further driven by the increase in the use of the off-the-road vehicles such as cranes, wheel loaders, telescopic handlers, tractors and special purpose vehicles. The increasing use of technology for achieving attributes such as increased durability including heat resistance, and reduced rolling resistance, are expected to generate opportuni- ties for the manufacturers in the global market. The increase in the use of heavy machineries and equipment in the agriculture, mining and industrial sectors, also increases the use of agricultural, mining and industrial tires. The market experienced a downturn in the past few years, majorly, due to chal- lenges in the coal mining segment. The increasing cost of coal mining due to the introduction of various government regulations, hinders the growth of the off-the-road tire market. The decline in the prices of crude oil has led to a weak construction and mining activities. This slowdown in the growth of the con- struction and mining sector, is also expected to restrict the growth of the off-the-road tire market. Despite the hindrances, the global off-the-road tire market is projected to grow at the CAGR of ~6%. Of all construction types, the bias segment is projected to account for the largest market share. The construction of the bias tires is cross ply and the cords are used such that they stretch from bead to bead. Bias tires possess an advantage over radial tires as it facilitates the entire body of the tire to lex. This lexibility facilitates a comfortable and smooth ride on uneven and rough terrains. Howev- er, the disadvantages of using these tires is that they have less traction and con- trol at higher speed. Asia Paciic region, of all regions, is expected to dominate the global off-the-road tire market. OTR Tires Market Worth7.68 Billion USD by 2025 OTR Tires Market Worth 7.68 Billion USD by 2025 OTR Tires Market Worth 7.68 Billion USD by 2025 Source: einnews The OTR tires market was valued at USD 4.91 Billion in 2016 and is projected to reach USD 7.68 Billion by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 4.64% during the forecast period. Among all the applications agriculture tractors segment is expected to account for the larg- est market share in 2017. The <30 hp tractors segment is estimated to have the largest demand for OTR tires during the forecast period. China and India are estimated to be the key markets for tractors in the power output range up to 100 hp. The growth in the Chinese market can be attributed to the signiicant rise in the agricultural mechanization level; whereas, in India, factors such as small farm sizes and price sensitivity play a vital role. The construction and mining equipment tires are expected to have a major share in the retreading market compared with agriculture and industrial equipment tires. The leet operators are choosing retreading of tires over replacement as the cost of retreaded tires is signiicantly lower than that of newly replaced tires. The OTR tire retreading market is estimated to grow at the fastest rate owing to the increase in mechanization and the aver- age working hours of machine. This leads to the wear and tear of tires. According to Global Property Guide, the number of residential and commercial buildings in Asia Oceania is expected to increase over the next decade due to the boom in the real estate market. Infrastructural activities are also projected to increase as they form a critical part in improving connectivity and promoting sustainable growth. Due to these factors, the market in Asia Oceania is expected to be the largest during the forecast period. It’s a little-discussedtype of pollution but could be affecting your health. Most drivers know the importance of checking tires regularly to see how worn down they are ― if you don’t, your car is an accident waiting to happen. But have you ever thought about where the worn-down stuff actually goes? About 10-30 percent of the rubber from car tires is lost as they wear out, a European Commission review reports. The majority of that material ends up on, or at the side of, the road, but most of us don’t realize that tiny tire wear particles small enough to be inhaled are also mixed into the air we breathe. While a number of scientiic studies have found tire dust has adverse health effects, the tire indus- try ― and studies it has commissioned ― suggests otherwise. Air pollution in the U.S. causes as many as 200,000 premature deaths each year. Motor vehicles are a major source of this pollution. Exposure to pollutants from motor vehicles can cause lung and heart problems and early death, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. Although signiicant work has gone into researching the contribution of emissions from exhaust pipes to air pollution, emissions such as those produced by tire wear have been largely overlooked, said professor Frank Kelly, chair in environmental health at King’s College London. The indings of a study co-authored by the academic in 2013 suggest that reducing exposure to tire dust would likely lead to improvements in health. But more research is needed to better under- stand the health effects of tire wear particles, Kelly said, especially as non-tailpipe emissions become increasingly important while exhaust emissions are brought under control. The tire industry, however, has pushed back on suggestions that tire wear particles have health effects. The Tire Industry Project ― an industry body chaired by the three biggest tire manufactur- ers, Michelin, Bridgestone and Goodyear ― says it is working to develop a better understanding of the possible health and environmental effects of tire and road wear particles (TRWP). As part of this ongoing work, it has commissioned a series of peer-reviewed publications. The key takeaway from TIP’s research so far has been that the presence of TRWP presents no signiicant risk to humans and the environment. Cyrille Roget, global head of scientiic and innovations communications at Michelin Group said: “All the studies that we have been looking at indicate that those particles in fact do not present any danger.” Despite repeated requests, Michelin did not provide with these studies. Michelin did say it is devel- oping a tire with a biodegradable tread made from material such as hay or beets. Concerns over tire particle pollution also raise questions about frequently cited ideas for tackling vehicle-related pollution, such as electric cars. Electric vehicles (EVs) are being touted as one of the most promising solutions to the air pollution crisis, especially in cities. But while they can signiicantly reduce tailpipe emissions, they won’t tackle the effects of non-tailpipe emissions from the likes of tire waste. Cities around the world are experimenting with ways to get vehicles off the streets. Los Angeles is phasing out heavy-duty diesel trucks from its port and overhauling the mass transit system, while Norway is replacing car parking spaces with bike lanes and closing certain streets to private trafic in its capital city, Oslo. In Paris, major intersections are being redesigned to prioritize pedestrians and cyclists over vehicle trafic. “The air we breathe is important. If the government and companies fail to take action to improve our air, we will be dealing with a global health catastrophe.” said Natalie Nava, project leader at the environmental group Greenpeace USA. LOAD (KG) INFLATION PRESSURE (KPA) Tyre Industry Trade protectionism, Retreads and Dumping It will be no surprise to close observers that trade protectionism in the manufacturing and mar- keting footprints, as one of the main themes of 2016, have continued into 2017. We fully expect there to be more news in this area in 2018. Probably the biggest news story of 2017 was the decision in March 2017 by the US ITC that imports of TBR tires from China had not damaged the domestic US tire industry. People are still recovering from the shock of that decision. In August, India’s investigation into dumping of TBR tires from China came to an end. Almost inevitably, the decision was made to impose duties of up to USD450/tonne on imports of these tires. Over the Summer the European Commission (EC) had also carried out a preliminary investiga- tion in the dumping of TBR tires from China. In August that found that there was a case to answer and launched a formal investigation into possible dumping. The irst indications of tariffs are expected to be made in May 2018 – nine months after the initial announcement, dated 11 August 2017. The investigation will conclude by November 2018, within 15 months of the initial announcement. Just as India imposed extra duties, everyone we speak to in the tire world expects the EC to ind that the industry has been damaged and that China is dumping tires into the EC market. Separately, the retread community in Europe is looking at issues around the increase in single-use TBR tires in Europe, from extra energy and materials used in single-use tires com- pared with tires that are retreaded, to the excess number of scrap casings being dumped across the region due to the reduction in retreads. Tips for driver:When Should Forklift Tires Be Replaced? One of the most critical safety components of your forklifts is the tires. Tires keep your operations moving and keep your operators safe. So, knowing when to replace forklift tires is key for minimizing downtime and reducing worker injurie WHAT CAUSES TIRE WEAR? SIGNS FOR REPLACEMENT ESTABLISHING A MAINTENANCE AND REPLACEMENT PLAN There are a lot of factors that can inluence tire wear. Depending on the working conditions that your lift is exposed to, wear factors can be differ- ent. However, here are some common conditions that inluence tire wear: █ Contact with chemicals. This can be as simple as gasoline, oils, and grease, which are common in warehouses and parking lots. Chem- icals can change the wear patterns for tires. █ Heat. When tires get hot, during long forklift runs, the rubber can soften and change the sup- port that the tires provide for the lift. Heat can also cause the rubber to strip quicker from the tires. █ Uneven driving surfaces. Forcing your lift to go over bumps or driving it on uneven surfac- es like dirt and gravel can cause quicker wear on your forklift tires. █ Under-inflation. Tires that aren’t illed to the manufacturer’s recommended volume will always wear quicker than tires that are illed appropriately. It’s important to know what to look for to deter- mine when to replace forklift tires. Look for these tire replacement indicators. █ Tread Wear or Balding. Just like the tires on your vehicle, one of the easiest ways to deter- mine if it’s time for new forklift tires is to look at the tread wear or for balding. Both pneumatic and cushion tires will become less effective when their tread gets low. For pneumatic tires, when the tread is close to gone or you notice bald spots, it’s time to replace the tires. For cush- ion tires, when the size of the tire is 2 inches less than the original size, it’s time for new tires. █ Cuts or Tears. Cuts and tears on forklift tires is a sure indicator for replacement. Even if only one tire has a noticeable cut or tear, replace all four tires to keep your forklift in a safe working condition. █ Chunking. This happens with cushion tires and is common when the tire comes into contact with a sharp object such as dock plates and scrap metal. Tires with chunks missing are very dangerous and should be replaced right away. █ Flat Spots. Misalignment of tires or sharp stops with heavy loads can cause lat spots. If you notice lat spots, on either pneumatic or cushion tires, it’s time to replace the tires and it’s time to retrain your operators. OSHA safety requirements demand that employers who run heavy equipment like forklifts have a set maintenance plan for each piece of equipment. This plan should include a process for when to replace forklift tires, which starts with operator inspection checklists. These can be done daily, or at the beginning of each shift. Operators should be trained on how to properly inspect tires for damage and wear, and indicate condition issues on a standard inspection form. Use these forms to determine tire replacement and other necessary maintenance. If your equipment is not used heav- ily, a good rule of thumb is that forklift tires should be replaced annually. Tires are an important part of safely operating a forklift. To keep your business productivity high and ensure worker safety, having a good replacement schedule and an inspec- tion checklist for forklift tires is essential. Chinese New Year (SpringFestival) Source: Travel China Guide 2018 Chinese New Year falls on Feb. 16. It is the Year of the Dog according to Chinese zodiac.Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival, has more than 4,000 years of history. It is the grandest and the most important annual event for Chinese people. Time for Family Reunion The Longest Public Holiday Holiday Origins from Monster Nian Chinese New Year Dates Chinese New Year Dates Customs & Activities Best Places to Go 23rd day of last lunar month: 26th-27th of last lunar month: 1st day of first lunar month: 5th day of first lunar month: 2nd day of first lunar month: 15th day of first lunar month (Lantern Festival): last day of last lunar month (Chinese New Year's Eve): 24th day of last lunar month: Being one of the traditional festivals, it is the time for the whole families to reunite together, which is similar with Christmas Day to the westerners. Most employees in China have at least seven days off work, while students take one month absence from school. The celebration lasts for 15 days from the 1st to 15th day of the first lunar month, and in folklore it starts even earlier, from the 23rd day of the twelfth lunar month. Originating during the Shang Dynasty (17th - 11th century BC), the festival used to be observed to fight against the monster "Nian" who liked to eat children and livestock. The monster was afraid of red color and loud sound. Therefore, people decorated their houses in red and set off firecrackers to expel it. Based on the lunar calendar, the festival has no exact date and it changes each year, but it mostly falls on a day from January 21st to February 20th in Gregorian calendar. The lunar calendar also defines the 12-year repeating cycle of Chinese zodiac, and each year is named after an animal. The preparation starts seven days before the Chinese New Year's Eve, and the holiday celebration will last to the Lantern Festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month. Following a day-by-day guide, Chinese people have different things to do on each day. Among these days, the Eve and the first day are the peak time, when people will have big dinners and set off fireworks. Worshiping the Kitchen God. Shopping for festival items. Pasting Spring Festival couplets, having reunion dinner, watching TV gala, setting off fireworks Worshiping the God of Wealth, married daughters returning home. Lantern fair, guessing lantern riddles, eating rice dumplings. Setting off firecrackers, eating dumplings, visiting relatives Welcoming the God of Wealth. Clean up the house thoroughly. Before the Spring Festival, every family will have a thorough house cleanup and go for festival items shopping. The red spring couplets, red Fu Character, and red animal paper cut are pasted for deco- ration. Also, new clothes must be bought, especially for children. At the reunion dinner on Lunar New Year's Eve, people from north will eat dumplings, which southern people are used to have Niangao (glutinous rice cake). Red Envelopes are given to kids and elders to share the blessing. Why is red color so popular? It's because red symbolizes hapiness, prosperity and good luck in Chi- nese culture. In China, different places have their own traditions and activities to celebrate this grand festival. Beijing, Guangzhou, Xian and Pingyao with authentic folk activities are good places to go if one intends to come during the holiday. 12animalsignsofChinesezodiac Year Date Holiday Zodiac Sign 2017 January 28 January 27 - February 2 Rooster 2018 February 16 February 15 - 21 Dog 2019 February 5 February 4 - 10 Pig 2020 January 25 January 24 - 30 Rat 21 22
