하이퍼루프(Hylerloop, Hypersonic Speed + Loop)는 2013년 테슬라(Tesla)와 스페이스X(Space X)의 CEO인 앨런 머스크(Elon Musk)가 ‘하이퍼루프 알파(Hyperloop Alpha)’라는 제목의 58페이지 논문을 통해 제안한 초고속 운송기술로서, 진공에 가까운 상태까지 기압을 낮춘 튜브 내부를 운송체가 음속에 가까운 속도로 이동하는 시스템이다. 앨런 머스크는 상상에서나 가능할 법한 하이퍼루프가 배, 기차, 자동차, 항공기를 잇는 ‘제5의 교통수단’이 될 것이라는 기대와 함께 개발에 필요한 그의 지식을 모두 오픈 소스(Open source) 형태로 공개하여 관심 있는 전문가와 기업들이 함께 기술을 발전시킬 수 있는 기회를 열어놓았다. 이러한 앨런 머스크의 제안을 토대로 현재 여러 국가 및 기업에서는 하이퍼루프 시스템을 상용화 하기 위해 관련 기술 개발에 박차를 가하고 있다. 이에 본고에서는 하이퍼루프의 기술개요 및 동향, 시장현황에 대해 알아보고 이를 기반으로 하이퍼루프의 비즈모델을 모색해보고자 한다.
