2. HCG stimulates the secretion of progesterone by the ovary.
Role of progesterone is:
a. Maintains uterus during pregnancy.
b. Prevent any further release of eggs from ovary.
It can be detected in blood after 7- 10 days from conception . and in urine after 10- 14
days from conception .In general the HCG levels will double every 72 hours. The level
will reach its peak in the first 8 – 11 weeks of pregnancy and then will decline for the
remainder of the pregnancy.
