How to solve Op-com CAN OBD “Initializing ECU” error
Some customers feedback that when using CAN OBD OP-COM diagnostic tool to diagnose
Opel or Vauxhall vehicles, the system displays “Initializing ECU” error. Diyobd2.fr engineer here
provides the possible reasons and solution of the problem.
Problem:
Start the vehicle, plug the OP-COM interface into the ECU and load the software into computer.
But the OPCOM software did not show any parameters when vehicle model and year are selected.
Then an error message was shown “Initializing ECU” and later “ECU does not reply. Please wait 2
seconds” at the bottom of the screen.
2. Possible reasons:
1) Computer system
2) The software/version does not compatible with your vehicle
3) Incorrect diagnostic operation
4) Firmware inside issue
Solution:
1) Chinese opcom diagnostic software should and must be installed on Win XP operating system.
3. Change another laptop running Win XP, better not to install it on Win 7.
2) OPCOM gets two firmware versions: V1.45 and V1.39. V1.45opcom works more CAN-ohm
but V1.39 fits stable with K-Line. Select the proper one for your car.
Firmware V1.45 software 2010V OP-COM:

Firmware V1.39 software 2009V OP-COM:

3) Follow the correct operation procedure to connect op-com and load software.
First, plug the OPCOM cable with computer/laptop, well install software
Secondly, connect opcom another end into the car’s DLC OBD port
Thirdly, power on the computer
Fourthly, Turn vehicle ignition to ON position
Last, run software and start diagnostic
4) Two possible firmware errors:
4.1) Dissemble the dashboard, you will be able to check the inside the main unit. Undid the four
screws and check if there is a plastic loose or be burnt. If it is, change the new component.
4.2) Relay problem. Using a multimeter to check your relay's all work when by putting 5v across
the top 2 pins. Then check for dry joints on the circuit board where the relay's are soldered and the
wires to the car connector are.
