Children with autism benefit from "social stories." These are short stories designed to teach a specific social skill. This is my first one.

1. I like to play with other children

2. In my classroom, there are children to play with

3. Away from school, there are children to play with.

4. What do I do when I want to play with other children? I ask if I can join them.

5. Asking to play I go to where children are playing,

6. Asking to play I say, “excuse me”, and wait for them to look at me.

7. Asking to play I ask if I can join them, and I wait for them to answer.

8. What will they say? If they say yes, I join them. If they say no, I find someone else to ask to play with.

9. I play nicely with other children.

10. When I play nicely, the children will ask me to play again.
