3. Jane Austen was an author in
18th century England credited
for many works such as Pride
and Prejudice, Emma, and
Sense and Sensibility. She
wrote two other novels.
However, they were not
published until after her death
in 1817.

4. Jane Austen was born in
Steventon, Hampshire England
in December of 1775. Her
parents names were George and
Cassandra Austen. Her father
was a minister. She had 8
brothers and sisters.

5. Ms. Austen and her sister
Cassandra were sent to study at
Oxford with a Mrs. Ann Cawley.
However, that autumn, both of
the sisters were sent home due
to a case of typhus. Jane nearly
died.

6. Before she was became a
famous author, Jane wrote short
stories and poems for her
families entertainment. Some of
her unknown works include Lady
Susan, Love and Friendship, and
a series of three volumes. In
these volumes, which contain
90,000 word, she chronicled
daily life and over exaggerated it.

7. Her most famous work, Pride
and Prejudice was published in
1813. This book got Austen the
most recognition as an author. It
is also loosely based on her life.

8. Another popular novel is
Mansfield Park. Published in
1814, just one year after Pride
and Prejudice. Mansfield Park
however, did not receive any
critical acclaim when it was first
published. The first positive
review came in 1821.

9. Emma was published in 1815.
Austen decided to write the main
character as someone “that no
one but myself will much like.”
This particular novel has been
adapted into several movies, tv
mini series, and stage
productions.

10. Sense and Sensibility was
published in 1811 and was
published anonymously. This
particular novel sold out of it’s
original print. A total of 750
copies were sold in the middle
of 1813.
