The document is a PowerPoint presentation by student Aiswarya Raj L on the topic of social science. It contains information on the three main layers of the Earth - crust, mantle, and core. It describes each layer in terms of their composition, thickness, and physical state. It also discusses another way the Earth can be divided based on its physical properties into the lithosphere, asthenosphere, mesosphere, outer core, and inner core.

6. Crust
Mantle
Core
The Earth is divided into three layers based upon the
material it contains.
7. The comparatively thin outer shell
of the Earth.
Approximately 40 km thick.
Two parts- continental crust, oceanic
crust.
As silica and alumina are the chief
contents, the continental crust is also known as SIAL.
As silica and magnesium are the chief contents, the
oceanic crust is also known as SIMA
9. Located beneath the crust.
Extends up 2900 km from the
the crust.
Tow parts- upper mantle,
lower mantle.
The upper mantle, made up
silicon compounds, is in a solid state.
The lower mantle, located beneath the upper mantle,
is in a semi-liquid state.
10. Central part of the Earth.
From 2900 km to 6371km.
Two parts- outer core,
inner core
Due to the high pressure
prevailing at the centre,
the inner core is in a solid state.
The materials in the outer core are in a molten state.
It is mainly made up of the minerals nickel (Ni) and
iron (Fe), it is also known as NIFE.
11.
12. The Earth is also divided up into layers based
upon the physical properties of each layer.
Lithosphere
Asthenosphere
Mesosphere
Outer core
Inner core
13. Lithosphere :- Rigid outer layer ( crust and part of
the mantle).
Asthenosphere :- Soil rock that flows slowly,
found below lithosphere like frosting part of the
mantle .
Mesosphere :- Middle layer, part of the mantle
very rigid magma.
Outer core :- Liquid layer.
Inner core :- Solid, very dense.
14.
15.
16. Earth’s crust is broken into about 19 pieces.
The plates move on top of the asthenosphere.
