Introduction:

MuscleNerd- prominent member of iPhone Dev team , has announced a major feature update to popular jailbreaking tool redsn0w, yesterday. Named as redsn0w 0.9.9b1 , it integrates several key features which were never integrated in any tool.

As mentioned in our earlier post, it automatically detects and download required files from Apple server, saving bandwidth and time. You no longer need to point iOS firmware to jailbreak it.

Earlier version of redsn0w was capable of jailbreaking iOS 4 .3.5 and iOS 5 , however, you needed to point IPSW file to perform jailbreak. Here is a simple easy to follow guide to jailbreak iOS 4.3.5/iOS 5 on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS.

Guide to Jailbreak iOS 4.3.5/iOS 5 on iPhone 4/3GS
Step 2: Open redsn0w and choose ‘ Jailbreak ’ option.
Step 3: Follow on-screen instruction to put your device in DFU mode. Make sure your device is connected to the PC.

Step 4: Unlike previous version Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 will automatically identify the IPSW build and tell you what to do. In case of iOS 4.3.5 or previous version it will download necessary files. iOS 5 beta users should manually point IPSW file from ‘Extras->Select IPSW’ option. This is because iOS 5 beta is not a public release so redsn0w will not be able to check it against Apple server.

That’s it!! Redsn0w 0.9.9b1 will automatically jailbreak iOS 4.3.5 or iOS 5 on iPhone 3GS/ iPhone 4.

You only need to go to ‘ Select IPSW ’ option. It will be cached so you do not need to provide it again. Alternatively, you can use sn0wbreeze 2.8b7 to jailbreak iOS 5, which is much more convenient as it also prevents baseband upgradation.

We have been telling our readers not to use any beta firmware without developer license. If you somehow have got your hands on beta IPSW file, you should use sn0wbreeze 2.8 as it also activates iOS 5 beta . Moreover, it also removes timer check so your beta version will never expire.

Note: iOS 5 beta jailbreak is tethered only. Follow the guide at your own risk.

Let us know if you have any trouble following our tutorial on how to jailbreak iOS 4.3.5/iOS 5 beta on iPhone 4/3GS using redsn0w 0.9.9b1.
