The Liberal Arts and Sciences and the 21st Century Land Grant Mission
The demands of the 21st century are myriad; but they include the need for digital fluency, global interconnectedness, collaborative research, and public engagement. It is not enough to respond to these demands with technical know-how; rather the richer and deeper traditions of the liberal arts and sciences, with their habits of eloquence, critical thinking, ethical imagination, and intellectual curiosity are required if we are to flourish in the 21st century.
Colleges of Liberal Arts and Sciences at our land grant universities are uniquely positioned to respond ethically and with depth and nuance to the hardest problems we face today. Nothing could be more practically expedient than to deepen our commitment to and investment in the liberal arts and sciences, the natural road that leads us to a deeper understanding to our relationships with one another and the world we share.

Singing together is powerful. It helps us express our emotions, teaches us to harmonise our differences, and makes us feel part of a community. It also provides an opportunity for language learners to improve pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary and confidence in speaking. For international students living in Australia, a choir can become a family, and a home away from home. It’s a safe place to make friends, improve English, and explore a range of feelings.
In 2018, the first annual Raise Your Voice choir festival for international students was held in Brisbane. In these slides, Vicki Bos and Donna Cook share some of the goals, benefits and outcomes of the 2018 festival, and let you know all about the upcoming 2019 festival. Archbishops' Council Appointment
The Archbishops' Council was established in 1999 to strengthen central policy and resource decision-making in the Church of England and help it face future challenges. The Council's role is to coordinate, promote, aid and further the work and mission of the Church. It has 19 members including 6 appointed positions, and the Archbishops are seeking a new member focused on youth or children's work who can contribute to the Church's mission and ministry with a commitment of at least 3 days per month.
