The document discusses the Year of Jubilee in ancient Israelite tradition. Key points include: the Jubilee year occurred every 49 years and included the sounding of trumpets, the return of land and servants to their original possessors, and reinforced that the land belonged to God and the people were God's servants. It served to prevent oppression and remind the Israelites that their possession of the land was temporary until God's promises were fulfilled.
The document discusses the concept of holiness based on the creation story in Genesis. It notes that on the seventh day God rested from His work of creation, blessed the seventh day, and declared it holy. The document then suggests that people struggle because they work from a place of fear, lack of acceptance, or lack of fulfillment rather than from a place of rest as God did. It cautions that without sharpening one's skills through wisdom, one must exert more effort to accomplish tasks.

Avraham Burg is a former Speaker of the Knesset and social/political activist who supports peace in the Middle East. He has over 20 years of experience as a public leader in Israel and is known as one of the best speechmakers in politics. Since leaving public service, Burg has advocated for pluralism, tolerance in Israeli society, and separation of politics and religion. He has authored several best-selling books on these topics. The document announces that Burg will speak at a New Israel Fund event on October 13, 2010.
This document discusses God's promises and conditions for Israel regarding the land of Israel according to passages in Deuteronomy. It summarizes that God promised to set Israel above all nations if they obeyed his commandments, but there would be curses including being removed from the land if they disobeyed. It notes Israel has not yet fully obeyed and discusses prophecies that the people will one day return to God and be restored to the full land.
The document discusses whether passages about God's dealings with ancient Israel apply to modern nations. It notes God previously focused on national repentance but now focuses on individual repentance. The key points are:
1) It's difficult to know if God is blessing or cursing a modern nation for its actions.
2) God now adds people to the church rather than dealing directly with nations.
3) Christians should focus on their own and neighbors' salvation and shining God's light, not broader judgments of nations.
The document discusses the rare occurrence of a blood moon tetrad, where four total lunar eclipses fall on Jewish feast days. The last blood moon tetrad occurred in 1967-1968 coinciding with Israel's victory in the Six Day War. The upcoming tetrad of 2014-2015 is seen as a sign that something prophetically significant will happen related to Israel. Previous blood moon tetrads have preceded major events for Israel that started as tragedy but ended in victory. The document urges readers to watch for signs and be prepared spiritually for what may occur.
God provided the cities of refuge so that those who had accidentally killed another could flee to a place of justice and mercy. In the Messiah, we all have this hope.. We can flee to Jesus for refuge from our sins, but this also requires that we remember that our congregation is to be a place of refuge for one another and also those who are lost in sin.
This document contains notes from a sermon series on the book of Nehemiah. It discusses chapters 9-13 which focus on national mourning and confession of sins, as well as Nehemiah's covenantal faithfulness in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem despite enemies trying to infiltrate from within through unholy alliances, stopping the collection of tithes, desecrating the Sabbath, and intermarrying with pagans. The notes encourage cultivating faithfulness to God.

This sermon is the concluding sermon in the series 40 days and focuses on Jesus' Ascension. We consider 3 Promises which God makes in Act 1 during the Ascension passage.
Daniel shows how to live as a sojourner based on the example of Abraham and other biblical figures. Some key points:
- A sojourner is a foreigner or stranger who sees themselves as temporarily dwelling in a land.
- Daniel exemplified this by separating himself from Babylon's influence and giving God glory.
- Christians are also called to be sojourners as we dwell temporarily on earth and await God's kingdom.
- We should focus on serving God rather than pursuing earthly possessions or pleasures.
Today we look at the roll time plays in a Christian's life. We define time, look at the different periods of time in our lives, and finally are faced with a challenge to use our time in a manner pleasing to God.

The two and a half tribes build an altar by the Jordan, alarming the rest of the tribes who prepare for war, believing they have turned away from God. However, the two and a half tribes explain that the altar is not for sacrifices, but merely as a witness that they too worship the same God as the others. Their explanation satisfies the rest of the tribes who praise God for bringing all the tribes together in unity under Him.
A Missionary People For A Missionary GodEddie Arthur
The document discusses how Jesus was sent by God to serve and sacrifice for humanity, and how Christians are called to follow his example by being sent as missionaries to others. It notes that Jesus came as a real human to suffer and die for people, and calls Christians to go to others as part of a community, making sacrifices as Jesus did to build the church.
Jesus did not sin, seek revenge, or relinquish his deity. He humbled himself, called out sin, and pleased God rather than himself. Jesus built one church and remained on the cross to accomplish salvation. He rose from the dead and will return to judge all.
The document discusses why the resurrection of Jesus Christ matters. It provides several reasons: 1) It fulfills prophecies in both the Old and New Testaments. 2) There can be no resurrection of believers without Christ's resurrection first. 3) Believers will spend eternity with Christ in heaven. The document also mentions that judgment is coming and that Christ's second coming will confirm his role as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, as prophesied in Revelation.
19 Jan 2014: "Be Found Faithful in the House of God"alfc_media
The document discusses qualities that God is looking for in faithful people. It emphasizes that in 2014 the focus should be on holiness and restoration. God wants people who are faithful in serving where there are arguments, dissatisfaction, or unfinished tasks. Specifically, it lists three qualities: 1) Being filled with the Holy Spirit to become useful. 2) Having wisdom from fearing God rather than worldly wisdom. 3) Living a witness-filled life through the power of the Holy Spirit to please God and bring people to salvation. The overall message is a call to faithfulness, holiness, and allowing the Holy Spirit's power to work through people.

The angel of the Lord spoke to the Israelites, reminding them that God brought them out of Egypt and into the promised land, but that they had disobeyed God by making covenants with the native people instead of driving them out as commanded. As a result, God would no longer drive out the native peoples but instead allow them to remain as traps and snares for the Israelites. After Joshua and the elders who had seen God's works died, the new generation did not know God and served Baals instead of God, causing God's anger and allowing enemies to oppress them until judges arose to save them. However, the people would not listen to the judges and turned back to idols after each judge died.
This document discusses how Jesus and Jonah both got "broken by brokenness". It describes how Jesus had compassion for broken people and wept over Jerusalem. Jonah initially fled from God's call to preach to the broken people of Nineveh but ultimately went and preached to them. The document encourages readers to find what or who breaks their heart, get their heart transformed by God, avoid numbness to brokenness, and pray to have God break their heart for what breaks his. It contrasts the "failed Jonah" who ran from brokenness with the "ultimate Jonah", Jesus, who drew near and wept for the broken.
This document outlines the overarching narrative of the Bible from creation to new creation. It begins with God creating humanity and commissioning Adam and Eve with a mission. After their fall, God establishes his plan to redeem humanity through Abraham and his descendants, forming the nation of Israel. However, Israel fails in its mission to be a light to the nations. Jesus arrives to establish a new Israel through his disciples. He commissions them to continue spreading God's blessing to the world. The story ends with God making all things new in the new heavens and new earth, fulfilling his original purpose for creation.
The Israelites grumble against Moses for bringing them into the wilderness where there is no food or water. God sends venomous serpents among the people as judgment, but tells Moses to make a bronze serpent and lift it up so that those who are bitten can look at it and live. This prefigures Jesus being lifted up on the cross so that all who believe in him will have eternal life. While God did not send his Son to condemn the world, those who refuse to believe and love darkness rather than light stand condemned. By grace through faith we have been saved from wrath and raised with Christ.
The document provides geographical and historical context about the time and place of Jesus' life and ministry in 1st century Judea and Galilee. It describes the Jordan River valley and key regions Jesus traveled through. It also summarizes the major religious and political groups of the time, including the Pharisees, Sadducees, Scribes, Essenes, Zealots, and the Roman occupation. Key events and teachings from Jesus' life are briefly mentioned.

The document summarizes Ezekiel's visions and symbolic actions. It describes Ezekiel receiving visions of God's glory that overwhelm him and are followed by instructions. The visions predict coming judgment on Israel for their idolatry and wickedness. Ezekiel performs symbolic actions, like acting out the siege of Jerusalem, to represent God's coming punishment of exile and the removal of His glory from the temple. The document examines Ezekiel's message of warning the people and holding religious and political authorities accountable.
The document argues that the "last days" referred to in the New Testament occurred during the time of Jesus' ministry and the establishment of the early Christian church, not in modern times. It asserts that the last days were the end of the Jewish age and Old Covenant, and that events like the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70 fulfilled Jesus' end times prophecies for the first century generation. The document concludes that the last days are behind us by over 1900 years, not still to come as claimed by some modern prophecy teachings.
Clouds are mentioned in various passages in scripture. They form as water vapor rises into the sky, with droplets typically between 6-14 microns in size. While clouds float in the sky, sometimes they fall as precipitation. Rainbows require both sunlight and water droplets to form. Clouds are referenced with several Hebrew and Greek words, describing them as a covering in the sky, God's chariot, and angels or changed ones. Dew is also briefly mentioned.
1. The document discusses the final visions of Daniel chapters 10-12, focusing on Michael's role in assisting Daniel against the Prince of Persia and standing up for Israel at the end times.
2. It examines ways angels can influence humans without interfering with free will, and notes Michael is linked with protecting Daniel's people.
3. Michael is described as a leading angel with the role of protecting and overseeing Israel, not as a pre-existent Jesus, and is differentiated from Jesus' role.

The document provides an overview and analysis of Psalm 103. It discusses the privilege of knowing God's truth and his purpose, focusing on his attributes of mercy, grace, and forgiveness as revealed in his name. Key points made include that God forgives sins, removes transgressions, and shows mercy to those who fear him from everlasting to everlasting.
The Didache is an early Christian treatise dated to the late 1st/early 2nd century CE. It provides instructions for Christian living and ecclesial practices such as baptism, prayer, the Eucharist, and the roles of apostles, prophets, deacons and visitors. The document draws from both the Old and New Testaments and reflects the adaptation of early Jewish Christianity for Gentiles. It was widely disseminated in the 2nd-3rd centuries and provides insight into how early Christians structured their communities.
Difficult moral issues: Genocide of the Canaanitespdavenport
The document discusses the genocide of the Canaanites described in the book of Joshua. It summarizes the religious practices of the Canaanites, including idolatry, cult prostitution, child sacrifice, and other immoral acts. It argues that God justifiably commanded the destruction of the Canaanites to remove the immoral influence from Israel and assert his sole authority. However, the language in Joshua was exaggerated based on conventions of ancient Near Eastern military reports, and the Israelites did not actually commit genocide against the Canaanites. The events prefigured God's ultimate judgment and salvation through Jesus Christ.
This document provides an overview of the Bronze and Iron Ages in the ancient Near East, biblical history, and parallels between the biblical period of the Judges and the post-Apostolic era. It discusses the transition from bronze to iron tool-making, Egypt's dominance in the region, migrations during the Bronze Age collapse, the Canaanite city of Ugarit. It also summarizes the cycles of the Judges, issues seen in biblical history and their similarities today, and how God uses imperfect people.
The document discusses the Torah commandment of Shmita, or the sabbatical year, which occurs every seventh year. According to the law of Moses, during this year the land must remain uncultivated and no work is done. It provides biblical sources from Leviticus and Deuteronomy mandating this practice, including that debts are to be released and the land and its produce belong to all. The principles of Shmita are seen as expanding on the Sabbath day of rest to encompass a seven-year agricultural cycle of completion, rest, blessing and sanctification for both people and land.
The document discusses wealth transfer through sowing seeds according to biblical principles. It provides several biblical examples of figures like Noah, Job, Abraham and others who sowed seeds of obedience and saw wealth transfers as a result. Their seeds were things like time invested in obeying God, sacrificing their only son, sowing in times of famine. The document encourages readers to have faith that God can take wealth from sinners and give it to the righteous if they have receptive hearts. It suggests personalizing scripture about wealth and righteousness.
This document discusses the meaning and importance of the numbers in 2014 based on biblical numerology. It begins by breaking down 2014 as 20 + (2x7) and explaining the meanings of 20, 7, and 14. It then explores the importance of the number 7 in the Bible through examples like the 7th day of rest. The document outlines biblical precedents for observing a Sabbath year of rest every 7 years as well as a Year of Jubilee every 49 years. It claims 2014 is a significant year as a lead up to the Sabbatical year of 2015. It promises blessings in 2014 for the obedient and concludes with a prophetic declaration of divine favor.

God reconciles humanity to himself through Christ. Those who are in Christ are a new creation, with the old things passed away. God has given humanity the ministry of reconciliation by entrusting us with the message of reconciliation and making us ambassadors for Christ. We implore others to be reconciled to God, for Christ was made sin for our sake so that we may become the righteousness of God in him.

3) Mary was told she would conceive Jesus in the 6th month, while she visited her relative Elizabeth.
Session 15 Old Testament Overview - I & II KingsJohn Brooks
The document provides an overview of the biblical books of 1 and 2 Kings. It discusses how Kings originally formed one book and was compiled from many historical sources. The events covered stretch from King Solomon's rule to the exile of God's people. Throughout Kings, the kings are evaluated based on how well they obey God's law. Both the northern and southern kingdoms experience periods of obedience and disobedience among their rulers. This leads to blessings or judgments, as outlined in Deuteronomy. Ultimately, no earthly king fully fulfills God's purposes until the coming of Jesus Christ as the eternal king in the line of David.

It seems that current missionary work requires spending a lot of money, preparing a lot of materials, and traveling to far away places, so that it feels like missionary work. But what was the result they brought back? It's just a lot of photos of activities, fun eating, drinking and some playing games. And then we have to do the same thing next year, never ending. The church once mentioned that a certain missionary would go to the field where she used to work before the end of his life. It seemed that if she had not gone, no one would be willing to go. The reason why these missionary work is so difficult is that no one obeys God’s words, and the Bible is not the main content during missionary work, because in the eyes of those who do not obey God’s words, the Bible is just words and cannot be connected with life, so Reading out God's words is boring because it doesn't have any life experience, so it cannot be connected with human life. I will give a few examples in the hope that this situation can be changed. A375

12. Main features of Jubilee Year
• v29-34 – Houses in walled city (if not redeemed within one year)
can be sold for good (but not outside cities and not Levites)
• v39-43 – Servants returning to their families
• v44-46 - …but this does not apply to non-Israelites
• v47-54 – case of Hebrew slave of non-Israelite – free to return to
family at Jubilee
– Exception – Hebrew slave of Hebrew master free to leave after 6 years
(Deut 15:12)
• No oppression of Hebrews by Hebrews
• v55 – Children of Israel are God’s servants
13. Two main points
• The land belonged to God
• The people belonged to God
14. Summary
• The year of Jubilee was every 49 years
probably following a sabbatical year
• It was a year for men to return to their
lands and servants to their families
• It taught the Israelites:
– Not to oppress their brethren
– That the land they occupied was God’s
– That they were God’s – strangers and pilgrims –
and that future inheritance was a matter of hope
when the promises to the fathers would be fulfilled
Mention that this features primarily the sacred year
Comment – point out relationship between our months (shown in centre), the months of civil and sacred years and the things that happened at various times especially the sowing and reaping

These two tables show the offset between sacred and civil years. There are, however, one or two problems – at least so it seems to me.
This shows the jubilee as being in the 50th sacred year – problem - trumpets in 7th month sacred year – Lev 25:9.
This idea shows jubilee beginning in 1st month sacred year. Possible solution – trumpets blown in middle of year. However, seems unlikely as trumpet declared jubilee and freedom for slaves and people return to possessions – could not do this until middle of year if this suggestion is correct.
Other problem is its overlap with 50th civil year and sowing of crops – Lev 25:22. Crops would need to be sown very late to avoid sowing during jubilee as this would end halfway through civil and well after crops should have been planted.
One thing this idea does do is take account of the 50th year mentioned in v10-2.
As I said I would be interested to hear any comments about this suggestion.

V9 – trumpet = rams horn – shophar. Jubilee usually yobel – strong 3104 – means rams horn. Here it comes from “teruwah” meaning clamour and can refer to an acclamation of joy or a battle cry. Usually blown in 1st day of 7th month – Num 29:1-2. Trumpet here same orig. as in Lev 25:9. Special arrangement once every 49 years for it to be blown on the 10th day. Come back to later
V10 – liberty proclaimed – freedom proclaimed to God’s people
V 11 – no sowing or reaping – rest for land – God’s land
V14-16 - Buying & selling is based on time up to Jubilee – see other slide – use hyperlink
v20-22 – Like a Sabbatical year – strengthens idea of 49 year cycle – same rules apply as for each Sabbatical year
v23 – Land not to be sold for good (cutting off - margin) - land God’s – they were strangers
v24-28 – land can be redeemed – otherwise returns to owner at Jubilee
Exception – Hebrew slave of Hebrew master free to leave after 6 years (Deut 15:2) – query Lev 25:39-40
No oppression of Hebrews by Hebrews – Lev 25:17 – all God’s servants – v55
Two main points – The land is God’s
The people are God’s
This is what they should have understood by the jubilee law
Once the nation were in bondage in Egypt – brought out by God – they became his – Exod 13:2. 1st born belonged to God – Israel his 1st born - Exod 2:22 – no longer belonged to E – change of position – new beginning – beginning of months.
Taken through wilderness to promised land - God’s land. Thus people and land brought together. Placed there under strict guidelines. That which belonged to God should be dealt with according to God’s instructions. Wilderness place of learning – intended to bring them to a realisation of their exalted position and make ready to obey. However, not many of them did.
Recall attitude of David
1 Chron 29:14-15. Here was the right sort of mind – recognising that all belonged to God
Psa 119:18-19 -

The whole process from being in Egypt right through to entering the land was intended to bring them to a realisation of their exalted position and make ready to obey. However, not many of them did.

1 Chron 29:14-15. Here was the right sort of mind – recognising that all belonged to God – “thine own have we given thee”
Psa 119:18-19 – here the need is shown for an understanding of God’s word so that a proper appreciation of what was required of his people might be had – “show me wondrous things out of thy law” and having seen such things there comes the realisation of being a stranger in the earth – no-one on earth can help – help comes only from God.
Heb 11:13-14 -
So, my dear bre and sis, we, as the Israel of God look forward with great anticipation to the time when these things shall come to the earth. We have been drawn to the Truth - we do understand the word of God – we know that we have no continuing city but seek one to come. Now there awaits us a marvellous promise – release from the burden of mortal sinful flesh – that glorious day of liberty.
S of S 1:4 - draw me is the call of the saints to their loved one, and we will run after thee – we will be glad and rejoice in thee
