• Gen 1:31 NLT Then God looked over all He had
made, and He saw that it was very good! And
evening passed and morning came, marking the
sixth day.
• Gen 2:1-3 NLT So the creation of the heavens
and the earth and everything in them was
completed. 2 On the seventh day God had
finished His work of creation, so He rested from
all His work. 3 And God blessed the seventh
day and declared it holy, because it was the day
when He rested from all His work of creation.
6. Why we struggle?
• Heb 4:1 Therefore, let us fear if, while a
promise remains of entering His rest, any one
of you may seem to have come short of it.
• Work from Rest

7. Ecc 10:10 NASB If the axe is dull and he does
not sharpen its edge, then he must exert more

Editor's Notes
Do you want to live in holiness, then let me remind you of one of the most neglected necessities for holiness – Rest. A life that honours God is a life that knows hot to live a Godly Rhythm between rest and work. God worked six days and rested on the seventh, He instituted this rhythm by practising it. Note that the need for rest was there before the fall, resting is not required due to imperfection, it is part of God’s perfect plan for abundant living. God worked six days and rested one, I know we can easily think it should be work one and rest six. Work is worship, when we have a correct theology of work we appreciate the privilege of work and enjoy it as part of our service of God. Rest and work shouldn’t be in competition but rather form a healthy symbiosis that can lead to a happy and fulfilled life.
Over worked but under fulfilled. This seems to be a common condition of our time. Ronald Reagan once said that “Hard work never killed anyone” and while I fully agree with the sentiment it seems that he may have been wrong. In 2003, Sid Watkins, a paediatrician who was exhausted after working up to 100 hours a week, died after injecting himself with anaesthetic in an attempt to cope with his workload. The coroner at Dr Watkins' inquest described the hours he had to work as "crazy".In 1994, the parents of Alan Massie, a junior doctor who collapsed and died after working an 86-hour week at a Cheshire hospital, claimed that their 27-year-old son was worked to death. He had worked seven days and three nights, including two unbroken periods of 27 hours and one of 24 hours. In the same year, British Airways pilot David Robertson, 52, died while flying. Work stress and long working hours were implicated.Moritz Erhardt, 21, was found dead (Aug 2013) as he neared the end of a gruelling seven-week placement with the Bank of America Merrill Lynch's (BAML) investment bank division. He collapsed in the shower in his student flat in East London amid claims that he had worked throughout the night eight times in two weeks in a bid to impress company bosses, returning home at 6am on three consecutive days. It has been claimed he suffered an epileptic fit. In an online profile, Mr Erhardt, from Germany, revealed that he had developed a tendency to be “over ambitious” at an early age. He said: “I have grown up in a family that expected me, in whatever respect, to excel in life. By implication, I felt somehow pressurised. However, I did not intend to belie my parents’ expectations. “Therefore, I have become a highly competitive and ambitious nature from early on.”The alternative is not laziness but working hard and also resting in order to live a healthy kingdom life.
Have you noticed how people work hard during the week so they can party on the week-end. It’s as if people live for the week-end and for the party, they just get through the week so they can feel alive on the week-end. People talk up their parties and are continuously pushing the boundaries for an epic jol so they can feel like it’s al worth it. The more pressure there is on the party to deliver on feeling good the more they need the help of substances. You can measure the peoples need to feel good about their lives by the amount of booze and drugs at the party. As a believer you and I shouldn’t have the need for these kind of parties, we arrive at the party already feeling good about our lives. It always amazes me how much fun I can have with fellow believers with no need for substances and for things to get out of hand. Plus an added bonus is I can remember exactly what happened the next day. Our work should be filled with joy because it is filled with God and our rest should be great because we do it in Him. What is the rhythm of your life, daily, weekly, monthly annually. How are you showing others a Godly way to live?
