This document outlines a formula for writing a 5-sentence summary. The first sentence states the main idea. The next three sentences each provide a supporting detail. The fifth and final sentence concludes by summing up the ideas.

1. Written Summary Formula
Sentence 1 – Topic sentence which states the main idea
Sentence 2 – Sentence which states supporting detail # 1
Sentence 3 – Sentence which states supporting detail # 2
Sentence 4 - Sentence which states supporting detail # 3
Sentence 5 – Conclusion statement which sums up ideas
