Tulsi Gabbard is a Democratic congresswoman from Hawaii who is considered a rising star in her party. She is the first Hindu member of Congress and one of the first female combat veterans to serve in the House. Gabbard has risen quickly in Hawaii politics, being elected to the state legislature at age 21 and later to Congress. She sits on the influential House Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security committees and has been outspoken on issues relating to her military experience such as opposing intervention in Syria.
