1. Gita- Source of Rejuvenation for a Society
Our life isfull of expectations.Once apersonentersacompetition,He startscompetingwith
others,triestobe betterthanothers,startscomparingwithothers,andat the last,gets a rewardfor
beingbetterthanothers.Butevenat the end,he may notrealize, thatHe couldstill be betterthan
someone- i.e.himself.
Such expectationsarise becausewe focusmore onoutcomesrathergoals. Expectations
arise from outcomes;Satisfaction arisesfrom goal. InGita, there are frequentexampleswhere we
see that the one whofocusedonoutcome hadneverbeensatisfied.Suchpersonwouldalways
suffereitherfromdepressionorgreed.Butwouldneverexperienceaneternal joywhichshouldbe a
prime goal of an individual.
Duringthe war of Mahabharata, Before the warstarted,Arjungot depressed.Atthe
momentof start of the war,He became reluctanteventoparticipate inthe war. What wasreason
behindthis?
Main reasonfor hisdepressionwasthat,He focusedmore onoutcome of war ratherthat his
goal. Before the war, insteadof focussingonpurpose of war,He focussedmore onthe fact that he
was fightingawar againsthisownpeople. Goal isalwaysmore important than outcome and
expectations.Arjunforgotthisveryimportantfactand same reasonleadtothe birthof Gita.
Whenwe focuson the goal ratherthan outcome,we become more andmore involvedwith
it.Such person gradually realizesthathe isenjoyingthe processingof accomplishinggoal
irrespectiveof obstaclesinreachinggoals.Whenpersonstartsenjoyingthis process,thenHe not
onlydoeshisjob,butalsodevoteshimself forthe job.Resultof suchprocessisoftenseentobe an
emergence of leadership.
The one whofocusesongoal, isactuallya benefactortothe society. One whofocuseson
outcome isa beneficiaryinaSociety. One whofocusesonlyonoutcome oftenforgets thatthe
benefactoris always the bestbeneficiary.Sole reasonforthe same isthat whatbenefactorgetsis
spiritual happinessbybenefittingothersandwhata beneficiarygetsisa materialisticpleasure by
benefittinghimself only.Spiritual happinessisalwayseternal.HoweverMaterialisticpleasureis
ephemeral.
IndianCivilisationhas alwayshada traditionof servingto the society.Because we always
have focussedonbenefittingothersthroughouractionsratherthan servingonlyourselves.Butthis
traditiongothamperedafterarrival of British.
Afterarrival of British,we forgotourown valuesandvirtues. We startedfocussingmore on
materialisticachievements.We started hatingourowntraditions.Britishdidthisdeliberatelyto
generate inferioritycomplex amongIndians.BritishtaughtusthatIndianCivilisationisfull of useless
ritualsandsuperstitions.They taughtusthat we neverstudiedscience.
But no one has been able toannihilaterootvirtuesof anycivilisation.Despite exploiting
Indianseconomically,Sociallyandculturally,IndianCivilizationstill thrived.We still have ourvalues
maintainedasithad alwaysbeen.Andthatis the successof ourcivilization.
2. Britishversionof IndianHistorysayswe onlyhaddefeats.Butitneversayswe hada largest
empire once.Theysaywe neverhada science.ButnevermentionIndiansinventedconceptof Zero.
Britishandwesternpeople claimthat modernprincipleswere introducedinIndia because of them.
Theyneverrealizedthatourscriptureshadhadthese principlesmanyyearsago.
Due to more andmore materialismincreasingin oursociety,YouthinIndia isfocussingon
servingthemselvesrathersociety.Thisreflectsinthe factthat large numberof youthin Indiarushto
grab a job to serve themselves.
What Indianeedsisnota Job seeker.Whatwe actuallyneedis aJob giver.Asexplained
before,Jobseekerisa beneficiary.ButJobgiverisa benefactor.The one whoisgoingtoserve a
societybycreatingjobsisgoingto be the bestbeneficiary.Because onlywhenwe offersociety
anythingwithoutexpectations,suchselflessofferingalwaysgivebetterreturnsbeyondour
imagination.Reasonbehindthisissame- Returnsare notmaterialisticbutspiritualistic.
In modernlanguage, the same conceptis called‘Entrepreneurship’.OurHistoryhasproved
that Indiansalwayshadan entrepreneurshipskill.Onlythingwe needtodois to sparkthispotential
again.
In the end, itcan be concludedhere, thatfocussingGoal ratherthanoutcome isthe core
principle of anEntrepreneur.More andmore EntrepreneursinIndia, more andmore richour society
wouldbe.Here,Richnessof asocietyisdefinedinthe contextof valuesandvirtues,notwealth.
Because at the end,Richnessof a societyliesnotinitswealthbuthow muchmembersof a society
are willingtoserve society.
Thank you.
