L: We offer our praises to You, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for your greatness in all things, from creation to cross, for time to eternity. C: You have made us and You have saved us, and we worship You.

L: So often, though, we don’t want to give You credit for Your goodness. We want to take credit for ourselves; thinking ourselves great and taking too much pride in our accomplishments. But without You we are dead in our sins and can accomplish nothing of value.

C: You alone are God, and You alone deserve the credit for all things good. Forgive us for thinking too much of ourselves. Forgive us for thinking too little of You. Forgive us for not worshiping You and giving You all credit and glory as You deserve. silence for personal prayers of repentance

L: God is great; great in power and great in grace. When the perfect world He created was lost in sin, He appointed His only Son to be its Savior; to be your Savior. By Jesus’ life and death in your place, your sins are forgiven. You are free from sin’s guilt and power.

C: We are free to serve and worship God in peace and joy. Amen.

God Comes to us in His Word John 4 :1-42 p. 738-739

Start from where people are. JESUS HAD TO GO THROUGH SAMARIA . v.4

Start from lower than they are. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)

Ask questions and offer relief. Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” v. 10

Be their friend (know them) so you can ask the right questions . He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.” v. 16

Be a student of the Word of God. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem. v. 20

Then Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.” v. 26 Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and said to the people, 29 “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” vv. 28,29

Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I ever did.” v. 39 They said to the woman, “We no longer believe just because of what you said; now we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this man really is the Savior of the world.” v. 42

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil, for the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you! The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you! The Lord look on you with favor and give you peace!
