2. Guinness' Story
Guinness World Records - originally the Guinness Book of
Records - the ultimate authority on record-breaking
achievements, started out as an idea for a book of facts to solve
arguments in pubs.
The idea came about in the early 1950’s when Sir Hugh Beaver
Managing Director of the Guinness Brewery, attended a
shooting party. There, he and his hosts argued about the fastest
game bird* in Europe and failed to find an answer in any
reference book.

3. Guinness' Story
In 1954, recalling his shooting party argument, Sir Hugh had the
idea for a Guinness promotion based on the idea of settling pub
arguments and invited the twins Norris and Ross McWhirter who
were fact-finding researchers to compile a book of facts and
figures.

4. The largest human mattress
dominoes consists of 2,019 people,
at Riocentro, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
on 6 August 2019.

5. The world's largest known spider is a
male goliath bird-eating spider
(Theraphosa blondi) collected by
members of the Pablo San Martin
Expedition at Rio Cavro, Venezuela
in April 1965.
It had a record leg-span of
28 cm (11 in) - sufficient to
cover a dinner plate.
