This document analyzes trends in maternal death rates in Africa from 1990 to 2015, finding that rates in Sub-Saharan Africa remain very high despite advances elsewhere. It notes the distribution of deaths was still dense in Africa in 2005 and 2015. The author questions why some countries like Botswana have lower rates than others, like Zimbabwe, and discusses potential factors like lack of awareness, access to technology and medicine, and lack of information sharing between health organizations.
