8. "In small places, close to home – so close and so
small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the
world. Yet they are the world of the individual
person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or
college he attends; the factory, farm or office where
he works. Such are the places where every man,
woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal
opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination.
Unless these rights have meaning there, they have
little meaning anywhere. Without concerned citizen
action to uphold them close to home, we shall look
in vain for progress in the larger world."
— Eleanor Roosevelt
In short, they effect everyone.
9. You will need to use the remainder of the lesson today to create some
work for display. Using the template provided, you will make a poster
explaining your basic rights as a human being.
World Human Rights Day December 10th
To complete the poster task:
•Draw on the human outline in the middle of
the poster to turn into a representation of
you.
•Colour in the headings to make then stand
out.
•Use the remainder of the space of the poster
to communicate some the rights you hold in
any way you feel is appropriate. This could
be in words, pictures or a combination of
both.
•Use the statements from earlier in the lesson
to help you.
