It also covers pre-project planning, research conducted during programming, common kitchen and bathroom layouts, accessibility guidelines, and terms related to interior design projects.
Designing for customer needs frequently leads to higher-quality goods and services in addition to innovative outcomes. This is because an effective design process uncovers hidden customer needs. This discovery, and the subsequent solving of the problems that kept customer needs hidden, will lead to innovation. In this presentation, Juran Global CEO Dr. Joseph A. DeFeo focuses on the 4 steps to drive process innovation that every organization needs to embrace.

The document describes a project to reduce repeated service jobs in Thailand. It finds that repeated jobs are costly and hurt customer satisfaction. Root causes identified include lack of engineer skills/knowledge, poor communication by engineers and with customers, and differences between product modalities. Solutions tested include preparation in advance, data collection, knowledge sharing, and training. Process maps, metrics, and analysis show the percentage of repeated jobs reduced from 10.27% to 6.87%, improving process stability and capability. The solutions were effective in addressing the root causes and meeting the project's goal.
