Workers Compensation
 Why Workers Compensation
o Started in 1912 as a trade off with unions so that suits from filing
plaintiffs would be dropped at the expense of allowing industry and
construction and all industry in the United States to function without
the impending law suits vs. a no fault coverage i.e. Workers
Compensation
 How does it work
o WC can be complicated because you have 50 regulations providing
the laws and regulations that apply to each and every state. Hence
the complicated nature for employers that are involved in activities
in numerous states.
 What can you do?
o As an owner of a company regardless of size 2 or 3 employees or
less an entity is required to provide workers compensation. It is
regulated insurance coverage and the rules and regulations are laid
out in the Virginia Workers Compensation laws of Virginia. Virginia
has a specific WC board and the House of Delegates appoints the
judges.
o You have a voice in voting and or speaking with your delegate;
otherwise all employers are governed by the same rules and
regulations regardless of size. The class codes and the Experience
Modification, which adjusts for the size and hazard of a company,
address the differences.
