Work Based Learning - Making of the Best
                   Employees

Through the integration of work and learning, students are able to make informed decisions
about their career. Educational institutions are continuously forming alliances with various
organizations so as to give a hands-on experience to their students while they study. In most
situations, schools, colleges and organizations are working together to formulate a curriculum
that not only allows students to learn, but a curriculum that assists in the overall development
of students in relation to market demands. This is what work based learning is all about.
Activities such as volunteering and internships are a way to integrate students into the working
environment. They help students get an insight into the working of various industries, careers
and work culture, thereby enabling them to come up with decisions on a career path.

A Further Look of Benefits of Work based learning For Students

1.      Improves Knowledge and Skills
Students are able to acquire skills in different fields through work based learning. The training
helps them understand and grasp various theoretical concepts a whole lot faster than traditional
learning mechanisms. They are able to apply the knowledge they get in school practically,
thereby helping them understand it a whole lot faster.

2.      Identify Interests
Work based learning helps students identify their abilities, interests, weaknesses and strengths.
They are also able to know the various career options available in different fields early, so
that they have ample time to choose any one of them, that they feel suits them. All this helps
students when it comes to getting a direction in life and their career.

It is no secret; organizations are seeking to hire people with work experience. This is the main
and greatest advantage of work based learning. Trained and skilled students are more confident
when it comes to meeting the expectations of their employers.

How Does Work based learning Benefit Organizations?
Having looked at how work based learning benefits students and educational institutions,
it is only logical to look at how organizations benefit from it. At the forefront is the ability of
organizations worldwide collaborating with various schools to train people who are well versed
in what the market demands from the organizations. Businesses and corporations are able
to get trained and technically competent workers who are more than capable of meeting the
demands current and future markets.

Work based learning offers an opportunity for organizations to grow together with their staff.
Instances of having to retrain staff on new technologies are few today, since the training starts
right in school.
