Mrs Singh had to leave the orphanage for several weeks, as her aunt
was seriously ill.
In her absence, Kamala went into a shell of loneliness.
She refused food and stopped singing during the time Mrs Singh was
away. Kamala was overjoyed to see Mrs Singh back and did not let her out
of her sight for the rest of the day.
Reverend Singh was happy for Kamala because she had learnt to love a
human being.
Kamala died in 1929 due to kidney failure, and she was mourned by
Mrs Singh and the rest of the children in the orphanage.
