A study surveyed 104 female youth basketball players aged 7-18 in the San Francisco Bay Area about the potential social impacts of bringing a WNBA team to the region. The survey found that a WNBA team could positively influence the female youth by providing role models and aspirations. Younger players aged under 5th grade (100%) saw more positive influence than older players in 11th-12th grade (84%). The results suggest that a WNBA team could have significant social benefits through relationships with local youth communities.
An Examination of Black Soccer Participation and Fandom in AmericaPatrick Rose
In this study, I seek to explore the issues related to Black soccer participation and fandom in America, focusing on youth participation and expanding to fandom at all ages. I also examine successful case studies of Black-led player development programs. I then provide preliminary recommendations based on primary research (interviews with prominent figures in the U.S. soccer landscape) and secondary research. Based on my research, I identify 10 barriers to Black youth soccer participation, nine challenges in Black soccer fandom in America, and I assess the replicability and scalability of player development models in underserved Black communities.
Three Fundamental Religious Changes in America and What They Mean for Parish ...Ed Dodds
This document summarizes three fundamental religious changes in America according to David Roozen: 1) A transition from religion based on the word (scripture/doctrine) to religion based on spirit (experience/ritual); 2) A shift from religion playing a prophetic role to a political role; 3) A change from religion focusing on mission to focusing on worship. Roozen discusses trends like declining membership in mainline denominations but growth in innovative worship styles, racial/ethnic diversity, and technology adoption in religious communities. Conflict is also addressed as both potentially corrosive but also enabling change when managed constructively.
Hidden Tribes Report: A Study of America’s Polarized LandscapeJonathan Dunnemann
This document summarizes the findings of a large-scale survey on political polarization in America. It identifies seven "hidden tribes" with distinct core beliefs that predict views more accurately than demographics. The tribes range from Progressive Activists to Devoted Conservatives. While the wings disagree strongly, the Exhausted Majority in the middle is fatigued by division and more ideologically flexible. This segmentation provides insights into polarization's roots in divergent worldviews rather than just partisan differences.
1) The document discusses how seeing charity donations from different users (friends, strangers, celebrities) on a social media news feed may impact a person's willingness to donate.
2) It describes previous research showing friends and celebrities can influence donation behaviors through social pressure and cooperation. However, the relative influence of friends vs. celebrities is still unknown.
3) The study aims to address this gap by analyzing donations made in response to a simulated social media news feed containing donations from friends, strangers, and celebrities, to determine which has the greatest influence on donation behaviors.
Social Media Impact On Our Lives [Created for the Professional Development Co...JP Marketing | NE
Social Networking is an increasingly hot topic impacting world politics (witness the Arab Spring), the field of marketing, and in the world of employment. Over 60% of marketing professionals utilize its potential and more and more employers trawl LinkedIn and other sites for "passive" candidates. Despite these facts, most professionals still aren\'t sure how best to use the power of social networking to advance their job search or to mobilize people for a cause.
The document discusses the State of Black America report published by the National Urban League. It celebrates the 40th anniversary of the report and discusses how it has become a benchmark for examining racial equality in America. It highlights some of the offerings from the 2016 report, including a complete website with data and analysis, a web series discussing the key findings, and the full report which is available online. It also discusses the Equality Index included in the report, which tracks racial equality using metrics in areas like economics, health, education, social justice, and civic engagement. The Equality Index for 2016 shows that black Americans have 72.2% of the equality that white Americans have. The document calls for a "Main Street Marshall Plan"

The document discusses barriers that women face in achieving leadership positions. It notes that women remain underrepresented at the highest levels across domains and countries. There is a focus on shifting from fixing women's perceived deficiencies to fixing systemic barriers like gendered power structures and organizational systems that privilege masculine norms. Solutions proposed include dismantling harmful gender constructs through gender justice and ensuring recovery from COVID-19 does not further reduce women's workforce participation. The normalization of women in leadership over the long-term is also discussed.
Obstacles to women's political empowerment include persistent gender stereotypes and institutional barriers. Stereotypes view women as unsuitable leaders or demand they excel at everything like a "wonder woman". Institutions also disadvantage women through a lack of training opportunities and male-dominated networks. Further, traditional gender roles that assign domestic responsibilities primarily to women prevent many from having time for political participation. Overcoming these obstacles requires challenging stereotypes and the gender division of labor to allow women equal opportunities in public life.

The globalization of the WNBA allows cultural exchange as players travel internationally. Many WNBA players play overseas in the offseason to earn more money, as WNBA salaries are much lower than male counterparts. Globalization transfers ideas and customs between countries through players interacting in different cultures. WNBA players help globalize basketball by spreading their style of play and raising its profile internationally through tournaments like the Olympics.
Temeka is excited for basketball tryouts but has chores to do first. She dreams of playing in the NBA but knows she must focus on school to achieve her goals. At tryouts her coach wants her to help others improve instead of just focusing on herself. She gets in trouble for losing track of time playing basketball and not finishing her chores. The next day she has a test but didn't study and worries she will be benched from the team if she does poorly. Though she gets a C+, she knows she needs to make better decisions to reach her dreams.
Cross Pollination - Saga of the Charlotte HornetsMichael Griffen
This document summarizes the complex history surrounding the original Charlotte Hornets franchise and its impact on multiple NBA teams and fan bases over several decades. It involved 3 permanent franchise relocations, 1 temporary relocation, 3 name changes, and left many confused fan bases. The summary examines the fan bases of the affected teams through three models of fan identification: the expanded model of organizational identification, the success-related fan behavioral process spectrum, and civic-symbolic allegiance methodology. It provides context on fan identification research and defines key terms like identification, disidentification, and civic/symbolic allegiance to classify fan reactions to the many changes surrounding the Charlotte Hornets franchise.
The document provides information about the NBA including its history, teams, and descriptions of select teams. It notes that the NBA was founded in 1946 and originally called the BAA. It later absorbed the NBL and took the NBA name. There are 30 teams divided into Eastern and Western conferences and further divided into divisions. Brief histories and facts are provided for several teams including the Hawks, Celtics, Nets, Bobcats, Bulls, Cavaliers, Mavericks, Nuggets, Pistons, Warriors, Rockets, and Pacers.
The document discusses opportunities for growth in the WNBA by analyzing market sizes in professional sports franchises and growth of women's sports participation due to Title IX. It notes that the largest NFL franchise is worth $1.4 billion while all major sports franchises combined are worth over $12 billion. Title IX led to increased opportunities and participation in women's college basketball, which has seen phenomenal growth. Attendance at WNBA games has grown from 1 million total in 1998 to 1.8 million in 2005, and TV ratings have grown to rival the NHL, showing an unsaturated and growing market for women's professional basketball.

● Female youth wanting to attend a WNBA basketball camp
● Female youth having a positive role model to look up to
● Female youth wanting to have a future goal to play in the WNBA
Methodology
The research design we will use is a crosssectional design in which we will
electronically send out surveys. Our approach falls under purposive sampling in which we are
specifically targeting the following population: youth females who play basketball, live in the
Bay Area, and are between the ages of 718. With a confidence level of 95% and confidence
interval of 5%, our aim is to survey a target population of 100 individuals within this population.
Because we are conducting human subject research by surveying youth girls that are
minors, we will also provide a consent form with each survey to be filled out by parents or
guardians to provide informed consent. In the consent form, we will provide information
regarding the nature of our study. Further, we will state that subject identities will remain
confidential, and that we will not use any names or identifiers in our data to protect the privacy
of our sample. Lastly, we will state that once data is collected, no one unauthorized will have
access to it.
Further, we will conduct an interview with a representative from the PCA as we feel that
local Bay Area organizations could partner with a WNBA team when conducting community
service opportunities. The data that we will collect from our surveys and interview, compared
with existing WNBA team community outreach opportunities, will help determine how effective
a Bay Area WNBA team could positively impact the social development of adolescent girls and
