3. ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES
Learners must:
AO1
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of legal rules and principles
AO2
Apply legal rules and principles to given scenarios in order to present a legal
argument using appropriate legal terminology
AO3
Analyse and evaluate legal rules, principles, concepts and issues
5. Units for AS Level
There are two units:
• Unit 1 – The Nature of Law and the Welsh and English Legal Systems
• Unit 2 – The law of Tort
Each will be considered separately.
There will be opportunity for discussion.
6. Unit 1: The Nature of Law and the English
Legal System (80 marks)
• There are 2 compulsory questions on the Nature of Law and the English
Legal System
• There are two further questions from a choice of options in Section A and
also Section B of the examination paper
• The examination will last 1 hour 45 minutes
7. Unit 2: The law of Tort (60 marks)
• All questions are compulsory
• Questions 1, 2 & 3 assesses AO1
• Question 4 assesses AO2
• Question 5 assesses A03
• There are 1 hour and 30 minutes allocated
• It is probably wise to allocate more time to questions 4 & 5 because they
involves the higher level skills

10. WJEC Teacher’s Guide
A teacher’s guide is available and it covers all the topics on the new
specifications. There is a range of features, for example, key points that will
indicate key teaching points, the skills that can be developed in the topic, a short
teaching activity to set the scene for learners, or to revise a topic.

• What do delegates feel are the key challenges within
their own centres?
• What particular skills should centres be encouraging
