William and the Fire Extinguisher is a short story written about a eleven year boy that investigates a Fire Extinguisher that has been fixed recently. It's in front of their class room. The story is about the trouble William and his friends get into trying to find out about how the Fire Extinguisher works! Hope you enjoy!

1. William and the Fire Extinguisher
William had to do some Mathematics sums that evening. He had not been able to concentrate when his teacher, rather
his least favorite teacher was teaching him long division sums! He had already torn a couple of pages from his
Mathematics book!
He was cursing his best friend Trevin. Trevin had been kicking William from behind for the first half of the Mathematics
period and for the other half of the Mathematics period Trevor had been trying to stuff little pieces of paper inside
William’s shirt!
William had waited patiently for the period to end. As soon as the period was over, he had chased Trevin around the
school. The chase had ended in a deadly combat!
They had returned to the class, shirts torn, Trevin’s shirt had been soaked with water because the deadly combat had
taken place in the boy’s bathroom on the second floor. Trevin had found himself on the floor a couple of times thus
soaking his shirt with water. William’s shirt seemed to have a couple of Ink stains because of a pen that Trevin had
brought with himself. The pen had leaked Ink on William’s shirt.
A little boy had come to boy had come to use the toilet; been afraid on seeing what was happening had rushed outside
yelling,
“Teacher two aiya’s are fighting”
This had brought an abrupt end to the deadly combat! In the next couple of minutes they had tucked their shirts and run
as fast their legs would carry them to their classroom!
Now they were sitting in their classroom, luckily for them the teacher had not yet come. William had a smile on his face;
he was thinking about the day’s proceedings.
The smile would not last long and for the rest of the period he would have to stare at the Fire Extinguisher that had been
fixed in the corridor in front of his classroom. The Fire Extinguisher had been fixed recently! All his friends were in awe of
the Fire Extinguisher especially himself and his best friend Trevin. There had been so many times when they had
expressed their opinions about how to use the Fire Extinguisher.
William had expressed his views on the matter,
“It shoots water, it’s like the garden hose.”
Trevin had however expressed a different idea on the whole matter. The matter for the moment was temporarily
unsolved and such unsolved matters would not remain unsolved for long!
They had gone and gone and questioned one of their teachers on the matter. He had told William and Trevor that as
soon a fire broke out or as soon as somebody touched the Fire Extinguisher, it would beep an alarm. This was all that
would happen according to their teacher. Trevin had whole heartedly believed every word that his teacher had told
them but William had not. He knew there was something fishy about the story! He knew something exciting would
happen if they knew how to use the Fire Extinguisher!
He had so many things on his mind about the following when his Mathematics teacher demand for his Mathematics
writing book to do the corrections. He had not done the long divisions that his teacher had asked him to do. He knew he
would be taken down to the principal. He didn’t care! He hated Mathematics! He hated long divisions! And he virtually
hated numbers!
Williams was asked to stand outside with his Mathematics writing book. Very soon he was joined by Trevin again
carrying his Mathematics writing book and in a couple of minutes by Raj and Angelo both carrying their Mathematics
writing books as well!

2. William wanted to talk about the Fire Extinguisher, It was a topic that the boys would talk about every day. Different
boys came up with different explanations. William who was the leader within his class came up with his opinion about
the Fire Extinguisher shooting water. This for the moment was the only explanation.
Thus William began talking to friends in the manner of a commander addressing his troops! Williams only intention was
to have all three of these friends on the journey to unravel the mystery of the Fire Extinguisher. He wanted to convince
Raj and Angelo. He knew Trevin would definitely be there with him.
“I have a plan, what our teacher told us cannot be accepted,” he said
“We have to find out about this Fire Extinguisher,” he continued
“I have an uncle that knows about this kind of thing, I will ask him about it and we will see for ourselves about how this
things works,” concluded William
As the bell rang and their teacher came outside to take the four boys along with her to the principal.
They had been severely advised by the principal but nothing of what he had said had gone in to the little minds
especially to the mind of William. The only things on Williams mind at the moment was to find out about how the Fire
Extinguisher worked.
The following morning William woke up without any trouble. Waking William was one of the most difficult tasks in his
mother’s daily routine. Even his mother was quite surprised when he got himself ready without any trouble.
“I’m sure he’s growing up now, he’s not mischievous anymore,” she remarked to herself.
When William got to school he had classes for the first four periods and he had no way of talking to his friends. He had
however passed a little note to his friends saying
I know how to use the F.E!
And when the interval bell rang and when all his friends had rushed outside to play run and catch. These four had stayed
back.
William who could not hold back the conversation anymore screamed in excitement
“I know how to use the Fire Extinguisher, my Uncle told me how to,”
“You pull and you press,” his uncle had told him last evening!
“But what about the alarm?’ Trevin questioned.
“What alarm. That’s all a lie.” Was Williams reply
“We will stay back after school today and find out anyway, I have a plan,” continued William
“Raj will be near the office to check if the principal comes out. Angelo will be near the Library!
“Raj will pass a signal to Angelo if there is something and Angelo will pass the signal to us. I and Trevin will be near the
Fire Extinguisher and then the second time, we will keep watch and you can be at the Fire Extinguisher” Said William
The plan according to William was flawless and things went as planned until William had accidentally pressed Fire
Extinguisher aiming it down Trevin neck. The next instant Trevin had grabbed hold of the Fire Extinguisher and started
aiming it at William who was trying to dodge! Trevin continuously kept missing his aim and kept hitting the walls and
virtually everything else in his vicinity except William!
Very soon they had been joined by Raj and Angelo and they started to aim the Fire Extinguisher in all directions as well.
Things did not seem too good at the moment and if they continued in this manner there was a high possibility that their
principal would hear the noise and turn up at the place!

3. William heard footsteps! William was the first to hear it. As soon as he heard the footsteps he knew whose footsteps
they were.
One look at his friends. One look at the place was enough to tell his good senses that he was in deep trouble. There was
a kind of dust around him. He could see that nearly half the corridor was filled with this particular dust. He looked at his
class room and again he could see that his class room was again filled with this dust. He looked at his friends, they were
hardly recognizable.
He grabbed the hands of Trevin. Signaled to the other two that there was something wrong.
Whispered into the ears of his friends.
“Ground floor, bathroom”
And the next moment carrying their bags over the shoulder as fast as lightning. They had disappeared from the scene!
William had a lot of doubts on the matter but for the moment he just wanted to get out from the scene of crime. He
knew if they would get out of school unnoticed then there would be a good possibility that they would not get caught.
They were in the Bathroom in the ground floor and for the moment they were washing themselves because the Fire
Extinguisher seemed to have left a strange dust on them.
And for the moment William was busy thinking about how they would escape unnoticed!
